 Iain Hall update

Sunday 13 May 2007, 3:43 pm    John Surname
 Categories: Blogosphere, Bogans

Recently I reported that everybody’s favourite pseudo-intellectual Iain Hall had banned me from his blog, leading to a (failed) suicide attempt on my behalf out of despair.
For everyone who has been asking, here is the email correspondence between Iain and myself:

John
You really are a very tedious little man. I have never done anything to you
personally and yet you seem determined to attack me at every opportunity.
Not just attacking my arguments but me personally. The former is fine but
the latter is rather childish and for some strange reason you seem to think
that I should be happy to have further comments from you on my blog. You are
not as you claimed at Grods banned by,
[sic] the way but until you post something
that is honest and of some substance the moderation bin is as far as your
comments will go. However if you want to be moved from the moderation list
to the banned list just continue your present spate of personal attacks

Oh you can send me that address by return; As I said in that comment I would
act on my own behalf in any such matter
[,] and even if I did get a solicitor to
contact you on my behalf
[,] what makes you think that my solicitor would not
reveal who you are to me, his client?

This email is private correspondence and it may not be published in any way,
without my express permission, either as a whole or in part or paraphrase.

Iain Hall

——————-

For God’s sake Iain, you don’t need my personal address (which I would never in a million years give you) to sue me.

John

PS. You might want to delete all the stolen images off your site.

——————-

John
If you wanted to use my photo did it ever occur to you to actually ask for
permission? If you want to replace your doctored image with one hot linked
to my original I would have no objection. What I do object to is the
misrepresentations in your” thought bubbles”. So here is the deal
[.] I will
give you permission to hotlink to my picture for the piece at Random
Brainwave and the one at Grods but if you want to use it again you have to
seek my permission to do so.Can I be fairer than that?
Now I am sure that Scott will rave long and hard about the fact that I” hot
link” to most of the images I use on my blog and as such I am actually not
republishing them at all and so there is no issue of copyright violation.

Now to the issue of an address for service

Did I actually say that I was going to sue you?

That aside I would definitely need both your full name and your address to
take any action in the courts. I think we can definitely say that your bluff
and bluster and sue me taunts are well and truly exposed as meaningless piss
and vinegar and your cowardice is beyond doubt. I have had enough of the
flame wars to last me a lifetime so why don’t try picking some one else as
your conservative whipping boy? There are lots of bloggers out there who
make me look like some sort of radical leftist by comparison But if you
persist with the same sort of crap as you have been producing lately all you
will succeed in doing is increasing my readership. You would be surprised by
how many referrals I get from both your blog ad
[sic] from Grods at present.
Strange as it may seem to you
[,] I am not such a bad fellow[,] nor am I as
precious about having people disagreeing with my viewpoints. In fact I
welcome real debate on any issue
[.] Perhaps you should think about doing the same.

Iain hall

“So here is the deal I will
give you permission to hotlink to my picture for the piece at Random
Brainwave and the one at Grods but if you want to use it again you have to
seek my permission to do so.Can I be fairer than that?”

No deal. Here is my deal. I will use the images when I see fit and you will deal with it.

John

Unsurprsingly, no response to that yet.

Iain, please, for the good of the nation and all we hold dear, start using punctuation!

Here is some, please feel free to sprinkle it over your writing as you see fit. (…… ,,,,,,,, !!!!!! ;;;;;;; :::::::: ,,,,, ………..).

Update (14 May): In lieu of any other updates on GrodsCorp, I would like to bring your attention to various assertions that Iain has made regarding the evil, treasonous, villainous Left. Please tell me if any of these refer to you:

1. The Left support Robert Mugabe.

2. The new series Robin Hood is “infected with the leftist mindset and it is nothing more than a piece of propaganda who’s [sic] primary motivation is to undermine The War on Terror. Islamists must be it’s bigest fans.

3. “It is hardly surprising that it is the inner urban lefties who have so taken to buying and drinking bottled water.”

When questioned on that last point by centrist PKD, Hall had this to say:

“Do you drink Bottled water PKD?
I bet you do[.]
I base my assertion on personal observation[,] and things like footage of various protests were [sic][,] strangely[,] you will see a surprising number of the usual suspects [?] carrying a placard in one hand and bottled water in the other.”

Can it be true that Iain has learned everything he knows about the apparent habits of the “lentil left” by watching protest footage on TV?

    Only two parentheses?

This email is private correspondence and it may not be published in any way,

I’m thinking you maybe should’ve edited that bit out… ;)

As a degree-qualified (as opposed to professional) engineer, I have some sympathy with Iain. The world is a confusing place for those whose abilities lie within the technical realm. Trouble is, not understanding people extends to yourself, meaning you lack comprehension of your own limitations.

If Iain wants peace of mind, perhaps he should consider giving the politics a rest and instead focus on making stuff.

(Sorry if this takes all the fun out of the battle - please continue if you wish)

…either as a whole or in part or paraphrase.

This is logically ambiguous (though hardly semantically ambiguous). If ‘or’ is taken to be exclusive-or (one or the other but not both) in the first instance, and the parsing of the entire phrase into the either-or template is taken to be:

either [as a whole or in part (but not both)] or [paraphrase]

Then you can arguably satisfy this pseudo-legal post-script by quoting in whole and in part.

Yes, I know it’s a linguistic stretch, but lawyers do it all the time - I was once asked to write a statement for a legal case saying that such-and-such a document (one that said someone had to give someone else plenty of money - my legalese is terrible) was structurally ambiguous and therefore invalid. Ambiguous it was (logically), but no human with half a brain could possibly misunderstand what it meant.

And just in case Iain wants to have another whinge about John Surname’s doctoring of his photo, let’s remind ourselves of Iain’s past doctoring of Jeremy “Anonymous Lefty” Sear’s photo:

To be fair, I don’t think Iain is the original creator of that image (I’m not sure his computer skills run to creating animated GIFs; he just likes pinching them). I suspect it’s the work of Landeryou or one of Blair’s charming little acolytes. Still, Iain obviously condones what they’ve done.

  6.  Gravatar Jangari (Monday 14 May 2007, 11:08 am) #

The way Hall thanks the originator of the gifs suggests that they were created at Hall’s request and therefore, whether paid for or not, were commissioned by Hall.

This just in from Iain’s blog:

PKD it is not my place to eduicate you on African history

    No, Iain, it’s not.

Rumour has it that Professional Writing and Editing courses now use Iain Hall’s texts to test students’ grammar, spelling, punctuaction, and general cohesivness. Upon taking the test, three Students’ heads exploded.

  9.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Monday 14 May 2007, 4:31 pm) #

I suspect what Iain knows about African history could be enscribed on the side of a Tic Tac. But boy can the man Google!

Ed, you can’t really blame someone for typos, they’re all too common for all of us. I am more irritated by his inability to conjoin words in compound nouns, like someone, not some one!

  11.  Gravatar John Surname (Monday 14 May 2007, 4:49 pm) #

Jangari: ;) My spelling and punctuation are usually good. Thanks for the heads up.

  12.  Gravatar The Editor (Monday 14 May 2007, 4:49 pm) #

Yer right, Jangari, a typo’s a typo. I just couldn’t resist the delicious irony of typing that particular word incorrecty in that particular context.

Breaking news: according to Iain Hall, Rudd pockets everything his wife earns:

I think that for all of the talk that Rudd being a man of the people he is as much into making money (via his wife’s business interests) as any Tory… The suggestion that Therese Rein would be able to continue with her business interests should Rudd get the keys to the lodge is absolutely outrageous but what else would you expect from the ALP these days?

Memo to Iain - in the 21st century, husbands and wives are largely separate legal entities, particularly with regard to earning and employment. I’m not sure why a wife earning more than her husband would offend him so, given his own domestic circumstances.

Well he’s declared those interests. Unlike people like Santos Santoro, Warrick Parer and a whole host of other coalition people.

Be interesting to see what happens. I do like how some in the press fixate on the fact she made money in the private employment assistance sector - made possible by Federal changes to the old CES. But fail to mention hers focussed on assisting disabled people into jobs and I believe long term unemployed.

It’s funny also how left leaning types are not allowed to have money or be wealthy. It’s such an odd classist opinion to have.

John, I wasn’t talking about your writing, I was talking about Iain’s. He seems to have a phobia of compounded nouns.

Also, re: your update, Islamists must be it’s bigest fans should also have a [sic].

About Rudd’s wife’s shares, I think she should divest herself of them, in fact I think all parliamentarians should sell any shares they have upon being elected. Clearly the coalition are better and more practiced in conflicts of interest, hey, they even have them ingrained in the ministerial portfolios. Who ever heard of a Minister for the Environment and industry?!

As requested, Jangari. You were tagged as spam for some reason.

  17.  Gravatar John Surname (Tuesday 15 May 2007, 2:40 pm) #

Jangari, I noticed that one after I updated the first time, but editing the post means screwing up The Editor’s formatting. I am still getting my head around the visual editor. But I’m getting there.

    Update: Today’s knee-slapper:

Hap You are just like your friend “Scott Bridges”[,] a typical latte lefty who has nothing but contempt for the ordinary working people and their choices in life .[sic] You think that rustic ethnic eating-places MUST be better than somewhere like McDonalds[,] [w]hich is rubbish. There is just as much fat in a [k]ebab as there is in a hamburger[,] and if you want to get into all of the ethics of it [-] if the meat is halal, then it is odds on that the sheep from which the meat for the kebab will have come from, [sic] would have been killed in a most cruel and brutal manner.

Only Iain could possibly think that a) Germany is “ethnic” and b) kebabs are native to Germany and c) all kebabs are Halal and d) Halal slaughter methods are worse than those used by us.

  18.  Gravatar Jangari (Tuesday 15 May 2007, 4:30 pm) #

Jangari. You were tagged as spam for some reason.

It’s a conspiracy. The software is sensitive to leftist paraphernalia and didn’t like my avatar. I’ve been blacklisted!

  19.  Gravatar The Editor (Tuesday 15 May 2007, 4:40 pm) #

He forgot to add that I was a vegetarian when he called me a latte-lefty class-warrior.

  20.  Gravatar Mikey (Tuesday 15 May 2007, 5:31 pm) #

Why always latte lefties? I know it’s alliteration - and right wingers lover their alliteration. But I mean since when do left wing people just focus on lattes? Is it a reference to apparent inner city no kids café lifestyle (you know; cause if we had kids we’d all be McMansion seeking 4WD aboriginal hating righty types). I mean I drink Diet Coke for fuck’s sake. Does that make me leftist? Coronas left or right? VB? Student and blue collar – but that can go either way. I demand a detailed study on the drinking habits of those ideologically inclined so we can assign beverages to beliefs now.

Marketing info says that Coopers Pale Ale is very popular with progressive lesbians, but Coopers gives all its political donations to the Liberal party.

So if I like Coopers Pale Ale, am I a progressive-conservative lesbian?

  22.  Gravatar The Editor (Tuesday 15 May 2007, 8:47 pm) #

I like Coopers and I knew I was progressive but am a little surprised to learn that I’m a lesbian.

I’m likely to order any of a dozen different drinks depending on my mood, so I must be a schizophrenic swinging voter.

I’ve only been commenting here at Grods for a short while, and I’ve generally enjoyed it. The diversion to the drink-politics gag was good.

While some of Iain’s foibles are either severe or architypal enough to gain mention in reflections on blogosphere discussion, there isn’t a shortage of more worthy topics.

I’m just curious (as a short-time reader), just how much to you discuss Iain here?

  25.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Wednesday 16 May 2007, 12:16 am) #

    More often than he’s worth.

  26.  Gravatar The Editor (Wednesday 16 May 2007, 6:58 am) #

Too often, I agree, Bruce. There has been an unintentional increase in Hall posts recently but I think one of the major problem is that you’ll notice the comment threads on Hall posts just go on and on. Let me use this comment to officially bring this post’s comment thread to an end.

If somebody’s dying to post a comment here go and criticise Lachlan Connor, Independent’s (absence of) production values or my stance on Howard’s education policy instead.

ps/- Hope you stick around, Bruce.

Beware! It’s a cynical ploy to stop people posting on my threads!

But no, I agree, be gone with this thread.

In the interest of balance I invite you to go and argue at JS’s post that the A Western Heart patriots are actually reasonable and compassionate fellows.

  30.  Gravatar strider (Wednesday 16 May 2007, 1:42 pm) #

I don’t think Iain Hall has done anything to deserve your treatment of him.

  31.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Wednesday 16 May 2007, 3:47 pm) #

Some of that is correct (the first three words predominately).

  32.  Gravatar Bruce (Thursday 17 May 2007, 1:27 am) #

Well Strider, I doubt you’d be saying that if he had tried to have someone spy on your person off-line as he did with me.

The frigging Iain Hall crap doesn’t end does it? I’ve just posted a hate mail he sent me on my blog. Pretty humourous though. Still, it didn’t stop me blogging about something more interesting though.

Anyway, this thread is officially dead so I’m gonna look at what else you have going on here.

(Oh, and I do intend to stick around, unless of course the Iain Hall humour turns to Iain Hall abuse.) ;-)
