 Alan Jones recommends

Last Friday I was feeling a bit run down and in need of a recharge given that it was six days since returning from overseas holiday. So after work McBec, Goobermetrics, TAC and I jumped in a hire car and headed for a rental unit near the wineries of the Mornington Peninsula for two days of drinking and, well, drinking.

On Saturday evening we arrived home a little tipsy and with an offensive amount of booze and cheese in the boot. Goober and I had planned to find a pub to watch Australia vs. Japan but just couldn’t face the long walk (cos drinking and driving is bad, m’kay?) so we all went through the four DVDs in the TV cabinet and came across this one.

Needless to say we simply had to chuck Mrs Henderson Presents on the 6 inch 4:3 aspect ratio television to find out exactly how bad a movie has to be to attract Alan Jones’ recommendation.

After 25 minutes TAC went to bed.

After 70 minutes I went to bed.

After 85 minutes McBec and Goober gave up and went to bed.

The only insight we gained was that Jones probably endorsed the film because there was a shot of Bob Hoskins’ penis in it. This is what the DVD player thought of Mrs Henderson Presents.

Alan Jones also recommends Garry Goes Down 9 but I don’t think I’ll be watching that anytime soon.

Andrew G (some minor Channel 10 celeb) also appears in the same format as the Parrot on DVDs at JB. No photographic evidence though just my word.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Andrew G selected films to endorse using the same presence-of-Bob-Hoskins-penis criteria as Alan Jones.

I’ve never heard of the movie. What were you doing with the DVD in the TV cabinet in the first place? I mean just how did something with an Alan Jones recommends sticker make it past the goalie in the first place?

    Xmas pressie?

Jones didn’t drop if off as Santa, climbing his way down your chimney, sticking it in the cabinet then ferreting his way back up the dirty tunnel to a white xmas?

I think they were staying in a holiday apartment with one of those archetypal collections of DVDs-the-owners-don’t-want-in-their-own-house. Last time I did this t’was in Bright and the movies on offer included “School Spirit”, “Mr and Mrs Smith” and “Look Who’s Talking”. None of which was recommended by Alan. Needless to say I read a book.

That hurts, Bruce. I’d rather be assaulted in a London public toilet than purchase an Alan Jones Recommends DVD.

I once purchased a DVD with “Kyle Sandilands recommends” on it.

I felt dirty, and not it a good way.

That’s a mighty brave confession, MBB.

I’m sure we’ll see the same sticker on the DVD release of Stan Zemanek’s funeral.

    Oooooooo too soon.

What can I say? I live dangerously.

It’s odd that a convicted criminal / right wing hysteric like Jones is approached to spruik things.

What’s next? Alan Jones recommends ‘Triumph of the Will’?

Oh god. Bob Hoskins has a penis. Thanks, Ed (and Alan) for bringing that to my attention.
