More government advertising

I’d consider myself a political junkie — I actively seek out political news from a range of sources constantly throughout the day. But even I have had trouble getting into politics this week because the neverending false campaign is killing me. If I’m feeling twinges of disengagement just imagine what Joe Voter out in Voterland is feeling.

I’ve also become aware of the almost wall-to-wall government advertising on TV and in the press and it, excuse the pun, drives me up the wall. One campaign that makes me particularly angry is the online safety series of ads. Talk about whipping up fear and taking advantage of widespread ignorance about the intertubes. But this new version of the government’s “Talking Online can lead to Stalking Online” ad is interesting.

I’ve felt the same way for months now and virtually everyone I know (mostly uninterested in politics) has too. Too me and to them it just seems like constant hysteria from both sides of politics, there are daily scandals and beat-ups, new interventions and election winning policies announced every second day and the non-stop polls supposedly showing a resurgence for the Coalition one week followed by a back-track the following week.

I just want it to all be over. I can’t imagine anything will change my mind or the minds of those I know in the next few weeks, without a campaign to firm minds, so why not just have the election and just be over with it. To the people expecting a long election campaign? We’ve been in the midst of a campaign all year!

    Finally those ads make sense.

    Hilarious!

Apparently, the above actor was rejected from the pro-Workchoices, anti-union ads, on the grounds that he looked ‘deranged and unrealistic’, according to producers, who instead were forced to hire from common criminals.

Obviously fake (there’s no way Iain Hall has an LCD screen).

Just checking if my gravatar [that is not airbrushed] works. This Iain Hall you speak of sounds like an interesting creature. I wonder if he needs any angel cards to guide him on his journey?

Make sure you clear your cache to see your new Gravater, Doreen.

Iain; Hall is compelling… like a car smash.

Also, Iain seems to have developed some liddle man-boobs.

And, more worryingly, a dolly or a stuffed toy on his bed.

Did you hear, about a month ago, a Melbourne teenager cracked the government’s $84 million Net Alert porn filter software in 30 minutes? http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/teenager-cracks-government-porn-filter/2007/08/25/1187462562878.html

I guess as a result they have reverted to the far more effective strategy of a government advertising campaign.

I got John’s U-Beaut Guide to Internet Safety in the mail earlier this week. Bit late for me though, I’ve already been cyber-stalked. I feel so… soiled.
