If this wasn’t so embarrassing and serious it would be hilarious.

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews has inflamed tensions with the African community by releasing a dossier claiming African refugees were involved in gangs, nightclub fights and drinking alcohol in parks at night.

Let’s see:
Gangs– Melbourne’s gangland war involving almost exclusively the Italian-Australian community
Nightclub fights– Almost every single AFL and NRL footballer
Drinking alcohol in parks at night– Almost every single 15 year old white kid in Australia’s suburban history

Prime Minister John Howard yesterday said it was “contemptible” to suggest the Government was playing the race card.

I find Kevin Andrews and John Howard contemptible. End of story.

Isn’t it interesting that JH was so tolerant of the NT soldiers that were ‘letting off steam’, but not of Nigerian teenagers, doing what a lot of teenagers in ALL communities do.

Contemptible indeed. It really is gutter politics. Anyone explain how thematically different what Andrews said was to what Howard said about Asian migrants in the late 80’s.

There is none. But Crosby played hard and fast with ‘are you thinking what we’re thinking?’ about Gypsies so given these fuckheads are greedily supping at his memo really none of us should be surprised.

An interesting sideline to this issue is that in the past decade, in the aftermath of apartheid and during the peak of Mugabe’s land seizures, our intake of white South African and Zimbabweans has been grossly disproportionate to both their numbers and their limited status as ‘refugees’. Parts of WA are now like satellite enclaves of Durban or Harare.

But that’s OK… they’re nice, and they play cricket.
