I’m alarmed

That humourless gimp Phil Ruddock was last week talking up the Liberals’ capacity for responding to a terrorist incident:

[Ruddock] launched a veiled attack on the Labor party’s ability to respond to a major terrorist attack if it won government. The Coalition government had developed relationships with agencies and was well practised in how to respond to a major catastrophe, Mr Ruddock told reporters.

Nothing too unusual; it’s the sort of thing you’d expect him to say in an election campaign. But do you remember those Federal Police “be alert not alarmed” TV ads? Up until the end of last week I don’t think I’d seen one for ages, probably several months. Since last Friday I’ve seen three of the suckers, two of them in prime time.

Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

And it’s particularly galling since Labor have a veto over all government advertising during the election campaign.

The anti-terrorism ads were running more than usual in the last election as well. Although I remember them being a tad more political than these. They were authorized by Nick bloody Keelty.

Reminds of Bush’s stump speeches where he actually said ‘A vote for the Democrats is a vote for terrorists to attack us’.

These right wingers have no fucking shame.

The Australian Government is considering setting up a ‘consultation blog’ to give the public a chance to have their say on public policy and proposed legislation.

If you’d like to help shape this blog then do this quick survey here

It only takes a couple of minutes and could lead to something that really makes a difference.

    Thanks.

yep, now that it’s election time we need “Team America”.
    only wait a minuite…
If the terrorists want Rudd to win, why would they launch an attack during an election campaign?
Wouldn’t that be like taking out a full page “Vote Howard” ad in the newspaper?
Wouldn’t we actually be relatively safer from a terrorist attack because terrorists wouldn’t want to upset the status quo pointing to an easy Rudd victory?
Why would we need a scare campaign at a time it is reasonable to assume would be the worst time strategically to initiate a terrorist attack?
Pffff and they call it military “inteligence”.
