GrodsCorp has been named Blog of The Year.

It won the prestigious title at the 2007 Grods Awards held in Melbourne last night.

More than 2 guests from across GrodsCorp attended the smart-casual dinner in the dining room at The Editor’s house in Brunswick, presided over by GrodsCorp chairman and chief executive The Editor.

Sound ridiculous? Then try this story from The Australian.

We are Newspaper of The Year

More than 300 guests from across News Limited attended the black-tie dinner in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Canberra, presided over by News Corporation chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch.

Did the Glenn Milne dancers stylistically push presenters off stage?

    No. They had a headache.

    Thanks for the invite Editor.
I would have enjoyed the presentation and your victory speech.

News’ awards are a running joke in the media industry. It’s all down to Rupert’s paranoia:

We can’t win Walkleys = Walkleys must be left-biased = Let’s start our own awards!

The ‘About’ page on the News Awards site says it all:

WELCOME to News Awards 2007, a program representing the pinnacle of journalism at News Limited. Now in their third year, the Awards are recognised widely - both within the company and in the industry generally - as among the most significant journalism awards in the region.

I just won an award too: the “Bondi Resident Who Likes Wearing Blue on Tuesdays, Although Sometimes Yellow” Person of the Year Award. Competition was almost as fierce as for the Newspaper of the Year Award and the dinner almost as well attended.

Shit. I was sure that the dozen posts I’ve managed to put together over the past month and a half would have been enough to get me the Grods, I mean there was photoshopping and everything.

Luckily I think I’m in with a pretty good chance at next week’s Dave from Albury Awards. I think you’re going to be pretty red faced when you fail to get up in any of the categories you’ve been nominated for Ed.

What I found hilarious is that for all the scorn Andrew Bolt heaps on the Walkley awards (for the obvious reason that he will never win one) he didn’t even get nominated for his employers in-house version.

I reckon I’m going to sweep the DfromA awards too.

How did Broken Left Leg go at the Grods awards? Did it come in second?

I’m afraid that nominations were closed to blogs outside of the GrodsCorp portfolio.

Ed, who won Editor of the Year at the Grods awards?

    Let me just check.

    Umm…

    It was: The Editor.

Brilliant choice, decided fairly and equitably on merit alone.

I can’t believe it, I got pipped at the post for a krypto award….bloody rigged!!

It’s OK Krypto, there’s pretty good money on you getting up in the Grods category at the Dave from Albury Awards, the Ed is beginning to believe his own publicity.
