Too drunk to blog

As Bridgit noted earlier it’s been very quiet around GrodsCorp today, in contrast with the immensely blogworthy events of the past 24 hours. “I can only assume that everyone is drunk or hungover,” assumes Bridgit. Well, she assumes correctly.
There was a gathering of like-minded people at GrodsHQ last night to watch the election results roll in and many drinks were drunk. At one point John Surname had a beer, a glass of Scotch, and a glass of champagne all at once. Both John and I had been up since 5am working on (separate) election-related projects, but all of us trucked on to the wee hours (including a trip to the local pub at 1am) regardless. Despite the vast amount of stuff I’ve wanted to blog today I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I will post a GrodsCorp election wrap-up tomorrow but in the meantime here’s the glass of champagne I drank while John Howard was delivering his concession speech.

The country just felt… well… different today. Like a weight had been lifted.

Despite my whopping hangover, I managed to blog/gloat about the result.
It is worth a look.

PS, the best bit was when Johnie got shredded on the Channel 9 shredding machine. You should have heard the cheer go up at our election party.

I do believe we were watching the ABC coverage. Kerry O’Brien wasn’t very good at suppressing his joy. We were worse at it.

Dropped son number one off at Torquay to bus it back to Melbourne for his restaurant job. He and number two kept me up until the sky began to lighten discussing political, social and economic theory interspersed with a few songs with guitars. And rarely for me, a dram or few too many of fine Irish Whiskey (must be some Fenian heritage in my family line).
Yeah…it does feel different. Unlike the morning after 2004 when I eyed everyone I saw with resentment and suspicion - all right who voted the bastards back in? Was it you??!
I drafted my analysis and it’s looking good but I couldn’t deal with the final cut and polish. Too tired. As we used to say in Grade 3 holiday reports - Tired, but happy.
The work begins. Cheers people!

You felt as though a weight had been lifted? I felt as though a huge burden had settled around Australia’s (metaphorical) neck.

As the token Democrat here, let me settle that - we were routed.

there there john. you could rise as a phoenix from the ashes of the democrats, given your membership. it’s a perfect opportunity to seize power!
well, aside from the demise of those demos, what a fucking unrepeatably brilliant weekend.
