 The song remains somewhat similar

I’ve taken to singing to my 12-week-old son this past month, and it’s led to a realisation all adults have sooner or later: the youth of today have musical taste up their arse.

Here are the last three songs I sang him:

1. Beyond the sea by Bobby Darin

Reaction: Apathy

2. Good day sunshine by The Beatles

Reaction: Indifference

3. I’ve been thinking about you by London Beat

Reaction: LOST HIS FUCKING MIND

Shi-pow-pow.

Singing I’ve Been Thinking About You to your child is tanatamount to abuse. Why not just chain him to a cot in a dark room with only the cockroaches, that infest his fetid nappy, for company?

I used to sing Beetlebum by Blur, but it’s amazing how, at 3am, you often make up hybrid songs with your own words which gently tell your bundle of joy to shut the fuck up and go to sleep because daddy has work tomorrow.

I’d give Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns ‘N’ Roses a crack.

Friends of mine refuse to play the Wiggles et al to their 4 year old in the car - her favourite song at the moment, thanks to her dad, is the Ramones’ “I Wanna be Sedated.”

And I’m with Wah - why would you ever sing that horrid song? Aaagghhhh, now it’s stuck in my head and I can’t get it out!

If I progress to Sonia Dada’s You don’t treat me no good, someone’s going to have to call 13 1278.
