Dr Tingtong responds – sadly, not in verse

Self-proclaimed logician, tireless defender of racism and bard (Dr) John “Tingtong” Ray has taken GrodsCorp to task* over this post, which he incorrectly describes as an “attack”:

And note that they attacked ME, not any of the facts and arguments that I have put forward. What they have written is, in short, a confession of complete intellectual failure. They hate the truths that I have highlighted but they were so unable to refute those truths that all they could manage was an attempt to shoot the messenger.

My post was, in fact, ridiculing the messenger — or, more precisely, linking to some writings of his that took care of that task more than sufficiently.

In any case, it’s hard to identify the “facts”, “arguments” and “truths” Ray claims to have highlighted in his unintentionally uproarious post, Stray thoughts about my life**, so refuting them is doubly difficult. But since he asked so nicely, I’ll humour him:

  1. Being “so pro-Indian that my house is full of them” is no refutation of the multitudinous claims that you are a racist.
  2. Your son is indeed a lucky man, bequeathed as he has been with your secret to stockmarket success — I’ll keep an eye out for his name in BRW’s Rich List. But comparing yourself to a “certain wise Jew”? You’re not remotely Christ-like, Tingtong, and it’s fair to say Jesus would be convulsing in his tomb Heaven if he were silly enough to read your blogs.
  3. Begging for food or money requires a certain abandonment of dignity, which can be justified in many cases by necessity. Begging shamelessly for an honorary degree is among the most pathetic things I’ve ever witnessed a grown man do.

As for this:

And it is therefore MOST amusing that one of my recent Leftist critics had obviously trawled at great length through my autobiographical data looking for “dirt” and was able to come up with? Can you guess? Can you guess what he found to criticize? He criticized my POETRY!!

The link to Ray’s treasure-trove of poetry is displayed prominently in the sidebar of this website, which is named (ironically, one would assume) “John Ray’s academic writings”.

Finally, we have this declaration:

So you might see why I don’t take attacks on me personally very seriously.

And this cavalier shrug-of-the-shoulders is found floating in a swamp of how many words? Two-thousand one-hundred and forty-four***.

.

* With a fistful of straw and limp lettuce
** How “stray” thoughts find their way onto a dozen or so blogs defies explanation
*** Many of these are dedicated to the other attacking blogger, who has responded to Ray’s effusive
tantrum here

It’s hilarious to watch the tinpot troops at AWH rally behind their leader. I hope they enjoy the pic on this page.

  2. Thursday 31 January 2008, 1:23 pm #The Editor

Is that 2144 words multiplied by the dozens of blogs that DrJR cut-and-paste publishes to?

  3. Thursday 31 January 2008, 1:26 pm #Ant Rogenous

Christ only knows, Ed — I’m a Leftist, not a mathematician.

  4. Thursday 31 January 2008, 1:28 pm #Which one is Pink?

Don’t forget that he has 200+ articles published. Just in case you forgot.

Oh and those 200+ published were hard won.

Did I mention he has had 200+ articles published.

Did I also mention that he is clearly the world’s leading authority on the psychology of racism.

    200+ …

  5. Thursday 31 January 2008, 1:33 pm #Which one is Pink?

Oh yeah, now he’s comparing himself to Hercules.

  6. Thursday 31 January 2008, 2:09 pm #The Editor

I’ve published 1000+ blog posts so do I get five honourary blog doctorates?

  7. Thursday 31 January 2008, 2:30 pm #Ant Rogenous

Yes, but Dr The Editor just sounds stupid.

  8. Thursday 31 January 2008, 3:01 pm #MrLefty

I was amused by his “academic” inability to understand basic logical terms.

  9. Thursday 31 January 2008, 3:12 pm #MrLefty

“Yes, but Dr The Editor just sounds stupid.”

    Unlike “Dr John Ray”! LOL.

  10. Thursday 31 January 2008, 3:54 pm #THR

In amongst the threats and abuse on the AWH thread, ‘Deke’ posted a link to a post about Ray’s anti-semitism. This comment was subsequently altered to look like it was mine, replete with the usual homophobic drivel.
In any case, if anyone has that link, I’d be interested in reading.

  11. Thursday 31 January 2008, 4:00 pm #Ant Rogenous

I agree with MrLefty: “Dr Tingtong” is the only one that has a ring of authenticity about it.

  12. Thursday 31 January 2008, 4:03 pm #THR

Maybe there’s some kind of Simpsons reference waiting to be used.
‘You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay. Just don’t call me racist…’

  13. Thursday 31 January 2008, 4:08 pm #Ant Rogenous

… that thing was funny for about three seconds.”

What is it about these fascist nutjobs and higher degrees? Most of them happily slag off education and consider the liberal arts as impractical and meaningless - but conversely they’ll rally around hare-brained phrenologists with convoluted justifications for their bigoted world-view.

Also, is that steam coming out of Doktor Ray’s ears - or has he unwittingly plugged them with some of the steamed cauliflower he had for lunch?

  15. Thursday 31 January 2008, 5:10 pm #Ant Rogenous

Steam of course — a man of his breeding, intellect and political persuasion only eats red meat. Raw.

Cauliflower is for limp-wristed Leftists and vegetarians. And, as MrLefty points out, Nazis.

  16. Thursday 31 January 2008, 5:13 pm #Bridgit Gread

I am a staunch defender of the rights of cauliflower.

  17. Thursday 31 January 2008, 5:15 pm #Ant Rogenous

    Poof.

  18. Thursday 31 January 2008, 5:27 pm #The Editor

    Communist.

  19. Thursday 31 January 2008, 5:35 pm #Ant Rogenous

Speaking of communists, this classic sketch from A Bit of Fry and Laurie had me in tears the other day.

  20. Thursday 31 January 2008, 6:41 pm #THR

Ah, link found. The Herr Doktor joined Nazi groups for (ahem) research:

    http://jonjayray.fortunecity.com/antisem.html

In conclusion let me reiterate that Nazis are not generally in any way bizarre people. If you met one unknowingly you could quite well like him. Nor are they in any sense bogeymen. They are very much a marginal minority. Even if crypto-Nazis do attain to some power in public life, the traditional respect for the individual in Anglo-Saxon societies should ensure that he could function only as a (perhaps extreme) Conservative.

  21. Thursday 31 January 2008, 7:58 pm #Bridgit Gread

Pete Townsend from The Who did something similar ‘for research’.

  22. Thursday 31 January 2008, 8:11 pm #The Editor

    Oooooh, SNAP!

  23. Thursday 31 January 2008, 8:41 pm #Which one is Pink?

I don’t mean to criticise or judge someone on their looks (like Nazis and tryhard Nazis do), but how come those who espouse Aryan ideals never look like Dolph Lundgren. ie Hitler, Jack van Tongeren, Goebbels, DJ Ray etc?

They always look like weedy pathetic losers.

*Can we leave rock gods out of this!

  24. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:11 pm #Mikey

Does he hang out with that other racist Doctor (Saleem?) and compare … notes….

    ZIIIIIPPPPPP

    “Nice”.

  25. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:12 pm #Ant Rogenous

Jesus Crap! Have a quick look at the front page of Ray’s academic website and click on the link to his “major book”, Conservatism as heresy (last line of the second paragraph. Note: I wouldn’t recommend doing this if you’re at work.

What the hell is going on there?! Is this the final piece in the puzzle that reveals John Ray as some brilliant fictional character devised by a mysterious comic genius?

That’d explain the poetry, among other things.

  26. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:13 pm #Mikey

John Safran tried to join the KKK but got turned away as he was a lapsed jew.

  27. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:36 pm #Jeremy

From Ant’s link, John Ray demonstrates his broad AND NOT IN ANY WAY STEREOTYPED understanding of Asian people -

“I myself feel that I have more to learn from a refugee Romanian Jew than I have to learn from an Asian peasant whose one aspiration in life is to own a bicycle.”

    Nah, not racist at all.

  28. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:36 pm #The Editor

For a man who meticulously mirrors every page of his hundred websites twice or thrice over I can’t believe he’d let something like the bad Conservatism As Heresy link slip through.

  29. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:38 pm #Jeremy

    And -

“On the issue of admitting Jews to their exclusive schools and clubs, these WASPs will say: ‘We let a few of them in-just to show we’re not prejudiced’. If this feeling exists towards a group demonstrably not of inferior educational or cultural standards and which is not easily distinguished by something as salient as skin colour, how much more feeling must be expected against Asians?”

Of course! ‘Cos those Asians clearly are “of inferior educational or cultural standards”.

His defence of the White Australia Policy is unbelievable.

  30. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:43 pm #Jeremy

I’d forgotten about AWH’s hilarious “we’ll change your post into something homo-erotic (which we’re disturbingly good at doing)” commenting policy. Apparently you crave their testicles, Ant.

If only I wasn’t banned from joining in from my home ISP.

  31. Thursday 31 January 2008, 9:52 pm #THR

This John Ray stuff has brought all the nutters out. One of yours, Jeremy, a Leonard something-or-other, has just denounced the evil-doers responsible for Ray’s latest de-pantsing.

  32. Thursday 31 January 2008, 10:01 pm #Jeremy

“One of mine”?! Never heard of a “Leonard”.

  33. Thursday 31 January 2008, 10:03 pm #Ant Rogenous

See that bottom sentence, about women in Nazi uniforms? They’ve been using that same line since they first banned me — when, in response to Tiberius’ review of a 1970s exploitation flick set in a Nazi death camp, I observed that there was nothing at all surprising about him whacking off to Nazis.

Intelligent, ethical, witty, politcally astute and original. No wonder I crave their genitals.

  34. Thursday 31 January 2008, 10:03 pm #THR

I thought I’d seen him trolling at your place. I recognise the name from somewhere, but can’t recall where. My bad.

  35. Thursday 31 January 2008, 10:07 pm #Ant Rogenous

It is your mate, Jeremy: Leon Bertrand.

  36. Friday 1 February 2008, 12:18 am #Jeremy

    He’s a weirdo.

The other thing that cracked me up about Ray’s little rant is that the syllogism he admits is faulty is the very one on which most of his essays rely. You know - the “left are fascists” ones, which go:
    1. Mussolini believed some things in common with the modern left.
    2. Mussolini was a fascist.
    3. Therefore, modern lefties are fascists.

And yet he can’t see it.

  37. Friday 1 February 2008, 12:35 am #CK

Well folks, have just trotted over to his website http://jonjayray.tripod.com/ and it’s just absolutely hilarious.

    1) Cutting edge intellectual still uses frames and doesn’t maintain his site. I’m guessing most recent entry was somewhere around 2002.

    2) He has been published in these so-called 200 respectable academic journals where and when exactly?

  38. Friday 1 February 2008, 7:35 am #Damian

When an academic says something which the right disagrees with, that academic is attacked as an ivory-tower cultural-elitist who needs to start living in reality.

The AWHers apparently don’t see the hypocrisy of their blind support for the good Dr on the basis that he has all those letters after his name.

In the past, I’d mostly skimmed over the Dr’s dry-as-dust and long-as-Choinese-noodles posts, as I much prefer the staccato intellectuals at AWH, namely MK and KG. But that comment about the Asian peasant’s bicycle is one I am sorry I missed.

Perhaps the Dr can set up a few dozen mirrors sites (just in case the Choinese Commie Gumint tries to CENSOR HIM!) in which he provides abstracts of his academic papers for the time-poor like me.

  39. Friday 1 February 2008, 7:37 am #Damian

Heh. Just received spam from a “Dr” inviting me to “enlarge my instrument” and was instantly reminded of Dr Tingtong’s major academic work.

  40. Friday 1 February 2008, 9:02 am #Ant Rogenous

    Staccato intellectuals! Gold.

  41. Saturday 2 February 2008, 7:20 pm #krypto

“Dr.” John Ray likening himself to a “certain wise Jew” perhaps he means Rene Rivkin, or Solomon Lew? he could even be referring to Ikie Solomon (upon whom Charles Dickens based his infamous character Fagin) or Judas Iscariot.

John Ray is about as kosher as a calamari, ham and cheese sandwich with vulture egg served on an Adolph Hitler commemorative plate.

  42. Tuesday 29 July 2008, 4:48 pm #Toaf

Krypto: “John Ray is about as kosher as a calamari, ham and cheese sandwich with vulture egg served on an Adolph Hitler commemorative plate.”

Ah, the good old days of TingTong mockethry. Brings a tear to my eye.
