Hell on Earth

From Club Troppo:

“I first met Tim Blair at a pissup function for the Australian Liberal Students Federation. It was a pretty swanky evening — a great cocktail bar, a piano, people taking turns to see who could sing God Save The Queen and Advance Australia Fair loudest.”

Where I come from - the real world - we call this kind of thing a wankfest and people who attend them are known as dickheads.

What a dickhead.

    Says it all, doesn’t it?

Those attending the soiree were privileged to hear Greg Sheridan provide a reading of Rudyard Kipling’s poems. The evening concluded with a three-way debate between Gerard Henderson, Janet Albrechtson, and KG, on how best to defend Austramerica against the crescented hordes.

Lord. Kipling? Next time I get insomnia, remind me to book a ticket.

Young Liberals, man. They’re more dangerous to our Way Of Life than terrorism.

Not only a wankfest but a witty wankfest:

I ventured to swap one-liners with Blair. I don’t recall really much of what I said, according to my lawyers.

    [Insert laughter]

I agree with him on Steyn though.

People are always on about Timmeh being very funneh with one-linehs (sorry. I mean, sorreh).

When????? He’s neveh been funneh in all the times I’ve been idiotic and/or drunk enough to read his crap. People write stuff like “LOL that was hilarious, Tim!” and I’m like, “What was?”

I suspect I dislike the man too intensely to find anything remotely funneh about him, or from him. Dickeh.

This is right. I have been burbled by several people on comments I have made about Tim Blair. Being as delicate as I am to criticism, I thought maybe there’s more to him than I can see … ashamedly, I reread his blog and still his wonderful wit just didn’t jump out and make me gasp. I was sad and hurt for weeks. He was so superior in his wit and wisdom and I couldn’t even see it.

Thanks Bron. I can now move on.

I hafta ask: what does “burbled” mean? In context of your comment, Terry, I say pounced upon by his moronic devoted readers for disagreeing with something he said, or not finding his alleged witticisms funny?

Like you, I’ve reread his stuff when I’ve read a LEFTY saying he writes wonderfully funny stuff on occasion, thinking I’ve seriously missed something. And it still didn’t jump out as bone-achingly hilarious. It didn’t even raise a small smile. Not even when I’m giggling at everything else on happy herbs. I can only conclude that lefties are really *shock horror* right-wingers. What d’you say, Terry?!

And I thought young liberal meetings were just about starting fights with anyone showing any moderate ideas.

Stop criticising Young Liberals. Don’t you realise “Sophie’s Youth” are the ones who will take her to the top, to reign over us? (Sorry, I’ve been reading too much Landeryou)

When I was at Melbourne Uni the Young Liberals all wore blazers, huddled in the dark corners of the SU and never got laid.

What does a Young Liberal use for contraception?

Take your pick out of personality, looks, intellect, or wooden car.

10 minutes to come up with the right answer. That was a test not a joke. Well done THR. Go to the top of the class.

Bron: I’ve reread his stuff when I’ve read a LEFTY saying he writes wonderfully funny stuff on occasion, thinking I’ve seriously missed something.

My experience was some burbling was by lefties and some by righties and some by middlies. Righties are just protecting their namsy pamsy oracle. Middlies of course want to be friends with everyone. Any lefties though who say Tim Blair is insightful & witty are the very ones who just read an opinion by someone praising him and suggesting everyone look a little deeper. Rather than think for themselves, they pretend to be insightful & witty also by suggesting we look a little deeper. Then we too will might rejoice at the above human skills of both Timmeh and the lefty in question.

A nasty cycle of untrue comments. It’s probably Tim Bland Blair himself making the comments?

    BTW. Burbled is a made up word meaning;
Burbled: noun, verb, adj. filler word for intoxicated or slow thinking person, substitute word when vocabulary is small. i.e. ’show us ya front burbled’.
