DIY = DOA

Don’t get me wrong — I’ve done some truly stupid stuff in the course of my amateur DIY efforts around the house. Things that would make my father cringe (hi, Dad!) if he were aware of them. But thankfully (and lucky for McBec) I’ve never done anything quite as dumb as this.

A man who tried to use a gun to install a satellite television system ended up shooting his wife dead by accident.

Ronald Long tried to make a hole in the exterior wall of his house in Missouri, US, to install the dish for the system.

After several unsuccessful attempts, he got a .22-calibre handgun and blasted two holes in the wall.

The second bullet hit his wife, Patsy, in the chest, fatally wounding her.

LOL, may she rest in peace.

The sub-editors must have been napping on the job when they came up with the shitty headline, “Man Shoots Wife Dead Trying To Install TV”, though.

PATSY KILLED BY DIY LONG SHOT

    Now that’s a headline.

See? Modern Man = Incompetent bastard.

Then again, surely this wasn’t the first stupid thing he’s ever done. The wife would presumably have known what she was marrying and the risks she was running.

What sort of reception is he getting?

    What an idiot.
He should have used a stud finder, marked where the studs were and then shot the fuck out of the wall.

Whenever you use a stud finder you must initially turn it on yourself, cause the alarm to go off, and ham up surprise to anyone in the vicinity (usually wife) that it “found a stud.”

    I know I do.

Ed, I think you need to ask Elijah for a special comment on this piece of news. He will no doubt have a very reasonable explanation about why this in no way is an argument for gun control.

Dad: we need to put a hole in the wall.
Son: Do you want me to get your drill dad?
Dad: No son, get dad’s gun will you.

It’s an integral part of male bonding.

“Only in America”, surely it couldn’t - wouldn’t - happen anywhere else. Yeah, we really need those guns, think of the uses. Has this guy never heard of … a drill? What a fuckwit.

    Hi Ed.

If she’d been winged it would be funny. But cos she died I can’t but just see it as a tragedy.

But, like whenever a man fronts the media and begs for help to find his wife that he murdered and hid in bushland/the boot, I can’t help but think this story’s going to evolve into ‘charges were laid today in the murder of ..’.

If it was an accident however, fuck me, poor bastard.

Being a life lesson is one thing. Making someone else a life lesson and living with it is something else…

They just showed that Simpsons’s episode on Foxtel where Homer falls in love with his gun - quite a few parallels to this.
