The subjects of a Hun story… not Hun commenters

You can tell as much as you need to know about the Herald Sun from the online commenting habits of its readers. One day someone will write a thesis or commission a study on it but from general observation, any story involving politics, international issues, poverty, global warming, etc. struggles to reach double figures in comments … but mention Wayne Carey, Shane Warne, any other current or ex-sportsperson, sex, death, sharks, stingrays, mortgages, petrol prices… and whooooosh! the posts they come like a stream-of-consciousness torrent. And something like an unholy incest yarn - weird sex and all that - attracts 42 boganisms and rising in about three hours, ranging from ‘SICK! DISGUSTING!’ tub-thumping to the thinly veiled gags:

All this story needs is Banjo music in the background!!

further evidence that south australia truly are better off for not having any convict settlement…

I think it’s fantastic. People should leave them alone - they obviously found true happiness despite the obstacles. Alana - how can you talk? You’re from Narre Warren of all places - you must see this kind of thing everywhere.

All the Hun needs now is for Wayne Carey to commit incest with a stingray while urinating on the windows of Crown Casino and their commenting system may implode.

That’s the hun commenters for you, always get off on rubbish that other people would see as irrelevant to their busy lives.

You think the comments on the Hun are bad? I’ve just been reading some comments on The Daily Telegraph. Just as bad, if not worse - about anything and everything… and it’s all Kevin Rudd’s fault.

Seems like a familiar refrain, actually.

At least the Herald Sun comments are moderated to a greater extent than the Tele’s. But I dread to think of what has been posted that hasn’t made the cut.

I’m sure there are bunch of ding-dongs who trawl all the News Ltd websites and leave their angst-ridden, holier-than-thou, right-wing drivel all over the place.

    Sounds like the Blairites, actually.

And yes, me too, I dread to imagine what didn’t make the cut.

If it wasn’t about incest it would probably be a good point you’re making.

AAW unfortunately they have a predictable reaction to any subject or non subject really. They are just naturally sour people who could have spent their life practicing by eating lemons.

I added a couple of hot issues to send the Hun’s commenting system into meltodown.

“All the Hun needs now is for Wayne Carey to commit incest with a MUSLIM stingray while urinating on the windows of Crown Casino WHILE SAYING SORRY TO ABORIGINES and their commenting system may implode.”

At least when that guy said “who’s your daddy?” during sex he meant it.

  10.  Gravatar Bron (Monday 7 April 2008, 12:11 pm) #

LOL!! Wah, that was funny. I have to stop reading Grods at work.

Most read story on The Age website today?

Dad and daughter gettin’ it orf.

Most read story on the SMH website today?

Dad’s incredible rootin’ ‘n’ tootin’ with daughter.

Most read story on the Brisbane Times website today?

    “Google ’street’ pictures upset couple”.

Dad and daughter story number four on list of most read stories as at 12.45pm.

What’s happening up there? Everything OK?

Okay, i may be missing the point here, and being a reverse-elitist into the bargain,…but issues like sport, petrol prices and mortgages are important to most working people. I mean, petrol prices are important to me as well, as in, they are too high and I like to complain about them.

Also, surely there is a lot of politics in sport…and the commentary and discussion from both officials and fans reflects, in some distorted way, issues of class, race, gender and power?

So, I don’t think it’s a ‘boganism’ that people bring up the issues that affect them most immediately and that the Hun knows what its audience is interested in.

Or am I being a snob and assuming that most working people aren’t that interested in the big ‘P’ political questions of the day…like the war in Iraq and Global Warming…

  15.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Monday 7 April 2008, 12:47 pm) #

The great majority are only interested in issues that directly affect them, SM, that’s a given. It’s the reason why global issues are really ever solved.

I didn’t realise we lefties were to blame. According to ;;;;, it’s part of our cunning “eugenics” program. DAMN OUR UNHOLY VILLAINY!

You know, I’m willing to bet the father is a wingnut. He certainly put his family first.

  18.  Gravatar steve (Monday 7 April 2008, 12:56 pm) #

Bron, the anti google story in the Brisbane Times is actually from the Good Old USofA. I personally detest Google more than any story the Hun has dug up, so it is good to see. However I gave up using any Google product I could avoid about ten years ago so it is only of passing interest to me personally.

  19.  Gravatar Suburban Marxist (Monday 7 April 2008, 12:57 pm) #

Actually Bridgit I was just thinking about that…surely one of the reasons Howard was kicked out was that he was seen as out of touch on the issue of Climate Change…which means a lot of people were concerned about it as an issue..?

  20.  Gravatar steve (Monday 7 April 2008, 12:58 pm) #

“out of touch on the issue of Climate Change…”

And any other issue that he mentioned.

  21.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Monday 7 April 2008, 1:09 pm) #

I don’t think so, SM. People were more concerned about interest rates rising and being screwed over by Workchoices, probably in that order.

What’s happening up there? Everything OK?

Oh yeah. This is just a bit of the same old same old for QLDers. Remember that Brisbane is near Ipswich - where that that fish and chip shop was located.

We have a new Pineapple party being formed by the Nats to lassoo the Liberal partners into a shotgun wedding and the Libs have bolted. Not a word for days from the Libs. Vow of silence territory. Sheer bliss.

    The child looks remarkably normal.

  26.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Monday 7 April 2008, 3:03 pm) #

    She’s got four legs, Wah.

  27.  Gravatar Ant Rogenous (Monday 7 April 2008, 3:20 pm) #

And she can already play the fuck out of a banjo.

  28.  Gravatar Bridgit Gread (Monday 7 April 2008, 3:24 pm) #

I wonder if Chuck A. Spear could use her talents? He seems to be into the bluegrass stuff.

Wah: At least when that guy said “who’s your daddy?” during sex he meant it.
Ant: I’m willing to bet the father is a wingnut. He certainly put his family first.

    Too funny.

I wonder if MK is Blair & Bolt’s lovechild?
…and if so, who was the receiver?

Still it took the Egyptians a few generations of sister-brother combos until they worked out that higher functioning animals couldn’t breed.

Where did 60 minutes find these freaks? Have they decided that the New Idea reader is the future of television?

The lass is no oil painting, but seriously, the old man’s looks like a very well fed version of gollum. WTF is going on there?

Perhaps if this is what’s happening in South Australia we need to stop pumping our sewerage into the Murray?

More outrage from the Hun’s readers:

This one is not going to die any day soon.

Yes, thought so: groupthinking on The Daily Telegraph too.

Never fear - there’s been a shark attack, that’ll knock it off the front page.

  37.  Gravatar Bron (Tuesday 8 April 2008, 2:39 pm) #

The teenage gang attack (complete with machetes) on a western Sydney high school yesterday has drawn a fair few outraged comments, such “LOCK THEM UP AND THROW OUT THE KEY” or “TRY THEM AS ADULTS, AND NEVER RELEASE THEM”.

Understandable, in a way, since it was a terrible thing that happened, but these people clearly don’t believe in, or - more likely - understand or heard of rehabilitation and prevention - just “LOCK ‘EM UP” or “CASTRATE THEM ALL”. All kinds of severe punishments they can think of. No sense of justice or mercy or reasonableness or a balanced approach.

Sad, really. And would half these goons scream the same old shit if it was one of their kids in the wrong? Doubt it.
