I’ve been bullied into starting an official GrodsCorp book on the date of Brendan Nelson’s demise. So leave your guess — month and day — in comments and the closest guess will win… something.

Conditions:
* A winner will only be declared if their guess is within two weeks of the eventual date;
* One entry per commenter;
* Entries close on Monday 21 April when comments thread will be closed.

May the best tipster win.

Can we all agree that Lord Nelson is a dead man walking? or is anyone out there stupid enough to say BN will be the next PM?

    I’m going for 27 July.

What if we want to change the date? Can we? Because I might have a better guess, er, closer to the falling of the axe.

Does Tatts Lotto let you change your numbers after six have already been drawn?

    Piss off, cheater.

Nelson is not quite isolated yet, Howard has reappeared to help Nelson stagger on.

Just watched Howard talking to the Liberal faithful at a QLD function.

It almost felt like old times. Still taking a while to get used to the fact he’s no longer the PM. He conducts himself like he’s still the Liberal leader.

    Horrible.

“Nelson is not quite isolated yet, Howard has reappeared to help Nelson stagger on.”

Howard isn’t Jesus. He lost the last election, and he’s not who they would be taking advice from.

Why doesn’t Nelson take advice from Downer? He’s a much bigger loser.

  15.  Gravatar Bron (Monday 14 April 2008, 10:47 pm) #

You’re right, Surname. Howard didn’t reappear after 40 days and 40 nights.

I think his reappearance was just a token gesture. Why? Who knows.

  16.  Gravatar THR (Monday 14 April 2008, 11:08 pm) #

    June 24, or thereabouts.

Rudd will deliver a controversial budget, but, in the next cycle of polling, Nelson will still fail to get a post budget bounce. Nelson only got the job because Turnbull is too ‘leftist’ from the NSW Right faction, and this latter group will need a couple more months of polling humilation to change their minds.

I just want to watch them lose, and lose, and lose. How about if Brendan and Malcolm take it in turns? We could have a repeat of Peacock and Howard from the 80s. That’d be sweet.

  18.  Gravatar Bron (Monday 14 April 2008, 11:14 pm) #

Just read on the ABC News site that the reappearance of Howard was to celebrate his political life.

Still bleating on about Rudd & Co not supporting his economic “reforms”.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/04/14/2216823.htm

The jackass doesn’t seem to understand that voters did not want his economic “reforms”.

    Sore loser.

That was very precise Damian. Know something we don’t.

    I’ll Say June 4th.

Anyway I reckon neither Brendan or Malcolm will get the keys to the lodge.

Watch out for a WA lib with the initials J.B. She’s a chance.

June 4th - I hope not, Zombie Mao. I don’t want a flurry of politics spoiling my birthday.

    June 11.

Considering what a grim-faced, smarmy, arrogant cag he was as a Howard government minister, what’s with the eternally grinning, laugh a minute (at, not with) Nelson of today? Is he necking a couple of Es every morning of his List(less)ening tour?

Make it 2nd July instead, just read comments again and 25th June is only a day after THR’s guess.

They’ll give him a good year of Rudd. Then, enough. Seriously, if they don’t start the hard yards with two years to go, then forget it.

  30.  Gravatar Terry Wright (Tuesday 15 April 2008, 12:53 pm) #

We all know that the good Doctor isn’t headed for the lodge and yesterday, New Matilda picked up an admission from the man himself in The Age.

Meanwhile, Dr Nelson yesterday continued to cling doggedly to the leadership, declaring: “I am going nowhere.”

    and

“I am very determined and I will keep fighting and speaking up for everyday Australians,” he said when questioned about the leadership. “I can assure you I am going nowhere.”

Gaaawd, he even admits it in public now.

    Cmon Downer,
Do something positive and hold it together for Doc Nelson until 9/21.
Then the prize will be mine.
