Equal second best.

That’s extremely precise, Tony. Care to elaborate?
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 1:28 pm #albi
Except for the fact he’s from Queanbeyan.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 1:42 pm #Chuck A. Spear
I’m not really a Bond fan (therefore I’m not a real man) but isn’t On Her Majesty’s Secret Service rated the best of the Bond films by true Bond fans?
I just watched the preview so it looked like I knew what I was talking about. It described George Lazenby as, “a different Bond from the same stable.”
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 1:47 pm #Jeremy
What’s to discuss? You must be criminally insane.
Real men do not wear ruffs.

Chuck
From Russia with Love is considered the best.
Anyway speaking as an aficionado Connery wins.
So nerrrrr.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 1:56 pm #The Editor
Connery is a lazy choice.

No.

They finally got it right with Daniel Craig - a lot better than poncy Pierce and Roger and more steely than the rest.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:01 pm #Chuck A. Spear
I was listening to an NPR podcast while sipping some port and smoking a cigar in my waist-length smoking jacket made of velvet, with a shawl collar, turn-up cuffs and toggle fastenings. On my head I had on a ‘deer-stalker’ cap made from houndstooth cotton twill. I was wearing no pants.
Now, on this podcast they said On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was the best, but I can’t remember seeing either of the films because I am not a real man. So I will take your word for it Zombie.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:05 pm #Wah
To say Connery was the best, just because he was the original, is like saying Captain Kirk was better than Captain Jean Luke Picard - the bald guy shat on Kirk.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:07 pm #Bron
What Wah said, but only because the choice of Daniel Craig as Bond upset the diehard Bond fans.
Wankers.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:09 pm #Chuck A. Spear
I hate the name Peirce and I hate Peirce Brosnan. I hate the way he squints. Plus, in real life he is a ponce.
Dalton was the best because no one liked him. Craig is homosexual. I’m convinced of it.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:29 pm #magic bellybutton
Actually, Moore was my fave for years until I really “got” the Connery Bond. So Connery was it for me until Daniel Craig came along - he’s perfect.
As an aside - a friend of mine met Timothy Dalton when she was a waitress at the restaurant of a friend of his. Even though he leered sleazily at her she still thinks he’s sexy. *shudder*
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:31 pm #Bron
Speaking of Pierce (you taking note, Chuck?) Brosnan, anyone else reckon jazz crooner Kurt Elling looks like him? Particularly here:

No? Never mind, then.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:34 pm #Chuck A. Spear
The top half of his noggin’ is similar Bron, however the bottom half doesn’t look like Remington Steel. It is more like Shannon Noll.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:36 pm #Ant Rogenous
Chuck’s spot on — it’s Remington Noll. What an arsehole he’s bound to be.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:39 pm #Chuck A. Spear
Remington Noll. LOL;D. He’d be the type of cunt who’d sing you a shithouse song while trying to finger your girlfriend under the table.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:40 pm #Bron
You have such a way with words, Chuck.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 2:43 pm #Chuck A. Spear
Bron, are you still pissed at me about the Willie Nelson joke? I can assure you he is alive, kicking and blowing joints.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 3:12 pm #Bron
Not at all, because I just tricked you back. See email.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 3:22 pm #Chuck A. Spear
Will do, now before this becomes an open thread what about George?!?!?!? Hawt or naught?
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 3:27 pm #Ant Rogenous
Lazenby wasn’t the worst of the lot — that honour goes to Piss Brosnan.
And Roger Moore looked far too much like Baby John Burgess to be taken seriously as James Bond.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 3:29 pm #Bron
Georgie = naught.
Daniel Craig = hawt.

That’s Lord Blackadder to you, Tom.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 5:35 pm #Rick Steel
Pierce Brosnan was a great Bond, he just had awful movies. Goldeneye was excellent and he was perfect for that. I like all the Bonds though, except for the terrible two. If you don’t know who the terrible two are you don’t deserve to be told.

I am so relieved that none of you took my Star Trek bait, you surely are people I am pleased to blog with.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 7:09 pm #Michael
I’ve struggled against this realisation but it can only be Roger Moore.
Who else could get away with calling a chick he’s met for five minutes and intercoursed Darling?
I bet he uses the femfresh.

I’m sure it was only bait Wah. I believe you.
Who else could get away with calling a chick he’s met for five minutes and intercoursed Darling?
Simon Cowell.

Actually Ant, it IS Mr. Blackadder-the Blackadder of the 3rd series (and in Jeremy’s picture).
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 7:44 pm #Tom
I was also hoping for a response from Jeremy, given that he was the one I was poking fun at.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 8:13 pm #Ant Rogenous
Pwned x 2. That’ll learn me.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 9:14 pm #Tom
How about a Grodspost about the Blackadders? Favourite, least favourite, quotes and insults…
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 9:20 pm #Bron
And then a post on favourite scene out of any Mr Bean episode. I <3 Mr Bean.
Oooh that reminds me, gotta download the latest GrodsGabFest.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 9:28 pm #keri
RE: Blackadder - Least favourite would be the entire first serious.
Favourite - Jebus, that would be hard. The third series is fantastic - I couldn’t pick a favourite out of it. Maybe Sense and Senility? The second, I would go with Beer. The fourth series, I’d have to go with the one with Flash in it, because you get Bob as well. Who could resist?
Woof!
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 9:29 pm #keri
Oh, Shite. First SERIES. Wine is urine from the last leper in hell.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 9:57 pm #Bron
I have not watched one single episode of Blackadder. I’m a bad mofo.
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 11:29 pm #Jeremy
“I was also hoping for a response from Jeremy, given that he was the one I was poking fun at.”
Sorry, Tom - yes, nicely pointed out. I’d forgotten that the gravatar picture I was using was Blackadder, wearing a frilly collar.
Clearly the first series of Blackadder is an abomination before God and ought just to be ignored.
The third series is solid gold all the way through, except perhaps the scarlet pimpernel episode. George is probably one of the funniest characters ever shown on television.
Second series had that brilliant “Bells” episode, which makes up for crap like “Beer”. Ah, Bob.
(Three things must ye know of the wise woman. First, she is - a woman! Second, she is…
Wise?
Oh, you do know ‘er then.
No, just a wild stab in the dark. Which, incidentally, is what you’ll be getting if you don’t start being more helpful.)
I could happily go on. But won’t.
“Private Plane” from the fourth series is pretty damned good, too. You’ve got to treat your kite…
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 11:36 pm #Ant Rogenous
“Thank you, young crone. Here is a purse of moneys… which I’m not going to give to you.”
Wednesday 16 April 2008, 11:44 pm #John Surname
Nursie, I like it firm and fruity!
I’ve had an idea and it’s as hot as my pants! Woof!
Thursday 17 April 2008, 9:17 am #Tom
Thank God Blackadder’s personality was overhauled by the 2nd series. But a favourite? Tough. 2 had Queenie, who was just hysterical. But Goes Forth had so many classic moments and lines-from Private Plane to Corporal Punishment…hell, everything about it. Also the poignancy of the final episode I think puts it over the others.
By the way Jeremy, there’s an unaired episode from the first series (not included on any of the DVDs-fuck you BBC) where the prince is more like his descendents then the sycophant of the first series. If it’s ever released it would be interesting to watch.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 11:40 am #skeptic
I stil reckon the final episode of series 4, when they go over the top, is one of the most poignant pieces of television I have watched, given that the show was a comedy.
It can still bring a lump to my throat.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 11:43 am #Ross Sharp
I always thought Wilson Tuckey in “Ironbar” was the best Bond … Hang on a minute, I think my brain just exploded.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 12:01 pm #Wah
Rick Steel is a cooler name than James Bond
Thursday 17 April 2008, 12:19 pm #Ant Rogenous
And Allan Quatermain has a much better ring to it that Indiana Jones.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 4:03 pm #Jeremy
Bloody hell, Tom. Want.
Oh - and regarding that DVD set available here: NINETY BUCKS, JB? For four discs? Get fucked!
Thursday 17 April 2008, 4:30 pm #Tom
“Bloody hell, Tom. Want.” As much as I loathe to quote Pauline Hanson, I must ask you to please explain.
Also-I didn’t get that overpriced 4 disk set at JB-I was able to collect all 4 for $15 a series at ABC.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 8:02 pm #Bron
Thanks to you bastards, I just rented the first season of Blackadder on my way home just now. I read the first season’s not so hot, but I gotta start somewhere.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 8:05 pm #Stu
While I wouldn’t say that Lazenby was the best I do think he is underrated for two reasons:
1) He wasn’t Sean Connery. He was the first new actor to take on the role, a tough situation to be in.
2) He only did one film. This tends to leave people thinking that he must have been really awful, however, as I understand it, he was offered the next film but declined it in a staggeringly bad move for his career. The next I saw of him he was doing a 007 cameo in The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Thursday 17 April 2008, 8:05 pm #Bron
Oh - and regarding that DVD set available here: NINETY BUCKS, JB? For four discs? Get fucked!
You think that’s bad, Jeremy? At Borders bookstore just now, I saw the first season of The Sopranos for NINETY NINE DOLLARS. Shiiiiit. As much as I love and miss The Sopranos, it’s not worth that much.
Friday 18 April 2008, 9:33 am #Dave from Albury
That’s crazy Bron. Big W has all but the last two seasons of the sopranos for around twenty bucks each.
Friday 18 April 2008, 9:55 am #Bron
Really, Dave?
Right, see you all later.
*whoosh*
Friday 18 April 2008, 9:59 am #Dave from Albury
I just looked at the Big W website and it lists all the seasons for $75 each. Curiouser and curiouser. That’s where I’ve bought all of my Sopranos DVDs and I’ve never payed over $60.
Time to become a catalogue hound Bron, they do drop the price on them, I’m too much of a tightarse to pay full price on that sort of stuff.
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:06 am #Bron
Aw, no! I just put a “NO JUNK MAIL” sticker on my letter box last weekend. Damn.
I think it’s ridiculous, the price they’re asking for them. Tightarse has nothing to do with it, really.
Um, Sex and the City DVDs never cost that much.
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:08 am #Dave from Albury
Um, Sex and the City DVDs never cost that much.
Perhaps a quality based judgement?
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:11 am #Bron
That’s right! That reason will have to do.
