Sense and Insensibility

The wise Leon has created a horseshoe chart that shows what he believes is the political spectrum. Kudos on putting Hitler on the right. Most of your cronies would have put him next to Marx.
In keeping with the spirit I have created my own horseshoe chart:

Friday 18 April 2008, 9:40 pm #THR
You can add ignorance, humourlessness and ;;; to the extremities of that horseshoe.
Friday 18 April 2008, 9:43 pm #Dave from Albury
You’re wasting your time posting now John, all those other bastards seem to have lives.
I bet their all reading fucking MX.
Friday 18 April 2008, 9:59 pm #pludian
David Hicks, more left-wing than Fidel Castro? He’s not left-wing at all.
Also, is John Howard really that much less right-wing than Bush jnr and Tony Abbott?
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:01 pm #John Surname
Leon has a unique understanding of the world that in no way actually reflects it.
Consider this:
“If the Rudd Government is really devoid of good sensible ideas, they should consider reading The Australian a bit more”
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:38 pm #steve
“If the Rudd Government is really devoid of good sensible ideas, they should consider reading The Australian a bit more”
I considered reading the Australian more myself once, but thought better of it as there are far better comics around.
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:47 pm #Almost Always Wrong
He’s got Wayne Swan more left…curve? than Paul Keating and Kevin Rudd. First, what the fuck is Swan even doing on there? All he’s doing right now is fucking up question time and spruking for 4 Corners. And second, possibly more puzzling, he’s got Malcom Fraser just behind Barack Obama.
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:49 pm #steve
AAW it comes from reading the Australian a bit more, great for bending the mind not good for much else.
Friday 18 April 2008, 10:55 pm #Almost Always Wrong
I know a guy who uses the herald sun for rollies, maybe i should tell him to print out leons posts?
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:02 pm #THR
I know a guy who uses the herald sun for rollies, maybe i should tell him to print out leons posts?
Leon’s post would be a failed experiment with banana peels, nothing more.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:06 pm #steve
“Leon’s post would be a failed experiment with banana peels, nothing more.”
Unless he’s cut loose on the dried toadskins again, THR.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:07 pm #Damian
But where is Marx?
John, I hope you looked at the horseshoe and called it quits after that. That fucking post is a mile long. It will ROT YOUR BRAIN!
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:08 pm #krypto
I can think of another analogy for a chart than a horse-shoe, it’s pointy at both ends and stinky.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:09 pm #steve
Why stop at the horse shoe? Just make it a complete circle and be like a dog chasing its tail with no beginning and no end.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:16 pm #krypto
indeed, if it disappears up it’s own arse it may vanish altogether.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:17 pm #steve
And would certainly be no more meaningful or meaningless.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:22 pm #John Surname
I would have posted my “turd chart” but Grods has standards. Apparently.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:28 pm #steve
Aren’t standard’s only made to be lowered?
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:34 pm #Almost Always Wrong
Lets hope if it did become some infinite loop of retarded political skewing, hence forth known as The Bertrand Antagonism Sociopolitically Targeted Aversively Redundant Divisional loop (BASTARD), and then the BASTARD did explode/vanish, it would take the BASTARD creator with it, it being the BASTARD.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:39 pm #steve
AAW, maybe is is just a loopy draft of The Bertrand Antagonism Sociopolitically Targeted Aversively Redundant Divisional loop and he accidently hit send before having time to develop the idea and put any thought into it.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:41 pm #Bron
Sometimes Leon Bertrand’s writings are so nonsensical, they remind me of another Bertrand.
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:42 pm #Almost Always Wrong
steve my coffe mug broke while i was writing the post. thought into humour…doubleyewteaeff mate
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:48 pm #steve
Whiskey tango foxtrot indeed, aren’t all good comedians classed as artists or writers?
Friday 18 April 2008, 11:50 pm #THR
No. Leon Bertran is noble and beautiful. You all besmirch his image.
He’s a thinkin’ man’s ;;;
Saturday 19 April 2008, 12:01 am #steve
“Though I am still young, as I get older my beliefs in opposites diminishes.” Leon Bertran
Does Leon not think that young and old are opposites these days? I suppose that under the horseshoe theory the older he gets, the younger he becomes too.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:04 am #krypto
obviously re-inventing the wheel is too progressive for this clown Leonski, he has to take it back a step and re-invent the freakin horse-shoe.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:19 am #Bridgit Gread
Well Leon may not know much about political ideologies (McCain more right-wing than Howard??) but he’s right that the political spectrum needs a re-jig. Perhaps he could do one in the shape of an eggflip or an IUD.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:43 am #steve
Somehow krypto, I don’t think that a set of ballows, a good fire, anvil and a hammer would even be enough for this clown to reinvent the horseshoe because that level of skill would be a bit beyond him. If he can’t make it as a wordsmith, I don’t like his chances of becoming a blacksmith.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:57 am #THR

No. I don’t accept this.
Uh, May is the cruellest month…
Uh, I have of late, but wherefore I know right, right my right right right…
VLADIMIR: What are we waiting for?
ESTRAGON: We’re waiting for Bertrand!

“Even today most members of the new left are extremely bigoted people who express hatred towards those who disagree with them, often labeling them ‘right-wing’ (as though this were an evidently bad thing in itself), ‘capitalist scum’ and ‘fascist’.” Leon Bertran
You’ve been reading my mail again Leon, I am proudly guilty of some of the above. I personally prefer the term ‘Tory scum’. Just a term that sits well with my non horse shoe theory of politics.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 2:24 am #steve
Thank God that the right would never disagree with anybody from the left or express hatred towards those who disagree with them. They certainly wouldn’t label anybody from the left in any way would they Leon?
Saturday 19 April 2008, 2:31 am #krypto
perhaps when he finally gets carted off to the gulag to be “politically rehabilitated” we can bury old Leonski with just his head sticking out of the ground and play a game of quoyts to see who can hit him with -you guessed it- a horseshoe.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 2:36 am #krypto
five shots for a dollar, might make a good fundraiser actually.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 9:39 am #Wah
France is a wierd one. While it has a conservative president and there are issues with nationalists opposing the growing influence of Muslim immigrants, it’s still one of the most socialist communities outside the communist world and very heavily unionised.
He’s also mistaking Wilson Tucky’s narrow-minded idiocy and racist bastadry as right wing.
Fuck know what Hicks is doing next to Stalin.
What I’d like to see a big steaming lump of horse shit where we can put Bolt, Timmeh, A Western Heart cronies and Dr Nelson.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 9:59 am #Chade
“The far right are often known for their hostility against Jews”?
What, like the US Administration propping up Israel? zzz.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 11:11 am #Ant Rogenous
You arsehole, Surname. I’ve been saving Leon’s horseshoe for a special occasion. Now it’s rooned. ROOOOOOOONED!
Saturday 19 April 2008, 11:11 am #John Surname
Up yours, Ant. It’s a blog eat blog world.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 12:38 pm #steve
“I’ve been saving Leon’s horseshoe for a special occasion.”
Ant,if you’ve got more gems like this tucked up your sleeve now is a good time to get them out there while the whole Toryland is in disarray. Well they are in Australia and the US anyway.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 12:50 pm #Bridgit Gread
I have designed a new take on the political spectrum, in the shape of a horse. Most bloggers are located around the head or neck; Leon, Bolt, Blair, AWH and ;;;; are located at the other end.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 12:52 pm #steve
“In 2005, Gregory Melleuish, associate professor of history and politics at the University of Wollongong wrote Fascist label a cheap shot against liberalism, an article which defended Workchoices, the Australian government’s industrial relations reforms.”
Leon you goose, this was one of John Howard’s speechwriters of course he defended workchoices.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:11 pm #steve
Gregory Melleuish was such a successful Horseshoe theorist that workchoices became the most hated ting ever in australian politics and the man he was writing speeches for became only the second Prime Minister in Australian history to lose his seat in parliament. A great success by right wing standards no doubt.
Saturday 19 April 2008, 1:29 pm #steve
The standard of Leon’s work reminds me of this:

that’s pretty dumb Steve.
Sunday 20 April 2008, 2:01 am #Leon Bertrand
How dare you mock my blog of reasons?
I;ve been mentored by;; the master of blo,,ggers.
;;;
I like my horseshoe of politics. You haven’t seen my parallelogram of economic theory…

This whole tap business is about as exciting as horseshoe theory of politics.
Sunday 20 April 2008, 10:26 am #Leon Bertrand
Well the person who is impersonating me stop please?
I really don’t care if you disagree with what I say, but impersonating others is quite low, and you should stop.
Grow up.
Sunday 20 April 2008, 12:10 pm #steve
Leon, I’d have thought that some sort of impersonation would have been the pinnacle of experience for a horseshoe theorist who claims there is no longer any difference between left and right.
Aren’t there just signs of one happy merged and united family now under your theory. Aren’t we so close under the horse shoe theory that what is yours is now mine etc?
Sunday 20 April 2008, 4:03 pm #Leon Bertrand
Steve,
Your powers of reasoning simply astound me. How deeply profound and clever.
Why aren’t you at the 2020 Summit?
Sunday 20 April 2008, 4:28 pm #steve
No interest -the same reason I don’t buy horse shoe theories. There is nothing ,new, different or original from when I first heard these theories about twenty years ago. Just a more hard right wing slant.
Sunday 20 April 2008, 6:28 pm #Damian
Oh no. An attempted pnwing by Leon.
Steve, I had been largely ignorant of this summit thing - excluding my brief visits to BoltBlairLand - til this arvo when the telly news talked about it after the footy (I only watch telly when the footy is on). Sounds to me like you’re right - no new ideas in there. A republic? Legalise drug? Human rights charter?
Perhaps if the delegates had been seated in a horseshoe formation…
Sunday 20 April 2008, 8:17 pm #steve
Damian, I’d like to see something worthwhile come out of the summit but it will not really be known until the end of the year. I just see this as very preliminary steps along the way.
I am equally convinced that no good will come out of the horse shoe theory. When I first heard of the theory it was a work presented by academics with references etc from top thinkers in Australian Universities. Now it has become a story citing Right wing group thinkers as the sources. It was unconvincing twenty odd years ago and even more so now.
Sunday 20 April 2008, 10:23 pm #krypto
oh that’s a pisser, for a minuite there I thought the real Leon Bertrand had turned up a-la Prodos, old king colon and that weedy little guy who ran for election (not Lachlan Connor, the OTHER one). You know, the blonde zit-face we all thought was MK. What was his name?
Sunday 20 April 2008, 10:32 pm #krypto
Ah Samuel Gordon-Stewrt, that’s him. Do you know how many archived election posts I had to scroll through to get that? and more to the point why did I remember him as having blonde hair?
