 Sex sells, cheapens

Andrew Jaspan and The Age salivated over it then, and Melbourne’s leading gutter-tabloid broadsheet is still salivating over it now.

The way that this supposedly respectable newspaper shamelessly uses sex to try and attract readers is pathetic. Andrew Jaspan has a lot to answer for.

(Also, I bet that poor woman had no idea that she’d end up being used as soft-core erotica and reader bait for the rest of The Age’s existence.)

UPDATE (12.55pm): Someone at The Age obviously thought the same as me.

What’s wrong Ed, are you having an “I hate the media” day?

That (the original pic of the 3 women battling the weather at Flemington, I presume) is actually a brilliant photo and I don’t see anything cheap, erotic or soft-porn about it.

I notice the original post dated 3/11/05 attracted zero comments so I guess nobody agreed with you then either mate!

    Nice try.

I don’t object to this picture being used as it is per say, however, what does piss me off about reading articles on The Age website, is that they are accompanied by ads that distract me and make it impossible to read this stuff bad and very processed bad.

The AGL ad is really pissing me off at present. And The Age need to ditch the Trash Talk widget. It’s no Perez Hilton.

I think that her boobs are better than her legs.

nah, I was enjoying that pic….until I scrolled down to see Mohummed Ali weilding a flame stick.

They are simply rotating the pics from exhibition, there was also a beautiful one of an African woman and child.
I think the shot of the girl at the races has been cropped - I’m sure froma shot of three women in the same predicament that won a Walkley - I think you’ve jumped to a conclusion a bit to quick in this case.

Sorry Ray, I never read your reply.

Fair enough. They’re probably rotating. And don’t get me wrong — I think the uncropped original photo is worthy of its Walkley, but the way it’s been used ever since (especially this cropped version) has been for reasons other than simply good photography.

I’m happy for any chance to slam the MSM. Speaking of which, whatever happened to Kwerky? Don’t tell me it was rebranded!

Right on bro - put it TO those women-hating corporate perverts. Down with soft-core erotica. Down with salivating over breasts.

  12.  Gravatar The Editor (Tuesday 22 April 2008, 2:23 pm) #

Oh, for FUCK’S SAKE! I wasn’t suggesting that it wasn’t a lovely photo of an attractive woman but I was taking the piss out of how a supposedly respectable newspaper was using that photo.

I agree that they’re great tits.

By the way, Damain, I’ve been looking for that site for ages (obviously not hard enough.) I could kiss you on the nuts.

Toaf’s nuts? Heh. Sounds like a canned Sanitarium product.

That reminds me: I’ve been doing some reading about food security in Somalia and around that region and learned about an amazing targeted nutrition food which is made out of peanuts and is being used by the likes of MSF for kids’ nutrition work. It’s called: LUMPY NUT! I love it!

  15.  Gravatar Zombie Mao (Tuesday 22 April 2008, 5:04 pm) #

    Damian,

    It’s called Plumpy Nut actually.

    Newsflash!

Unable to muster up the power of groupthink usually attributed to Grods.com the Editor has thrown a hissy fit and decided to do a guest blogging stint elsewhere in the hopes of stirring up some webby anger at The Age.

It’s sad mate, sad. You need to trust us, we are the hive mind, let us make your decisions for you.
