The difficulty with being a bullshit artist is that you have to be meticulous about maintaining your facade, lest you become entangled in the intricate web you yourself have spun. And what makes this task doubly difficult is the fact that chronic bullshitters inevitably begin believing their own propaganda, which makes spotting the little chinks in their story all the more tricky.
It takes something of an evil genius to make a successful career of bullshit artistry; dimwits need not apply. Which is where Leon Bertrand came unstuck last week.
Self-styled superlawyer Bertrand, whose chubby little fingerprints were all over the recent “George Athanasi” debacle, thinks himself an exemplar of the Rational Right; by his own account, a “courageous” conservative with nothing to hide:

So imagine my delight last week when I discovered, in the “George Athanasi” comment thread on Bankruptus Maximus’ blog of shame, the following:
Evidently, Leon — silly sausage that he is — posted a sockpuppet comment but forgot to remove his URL from the homepage field. And it’s lucky I took a screen grab of the comment, because if you pay the thread a visit now, you’ll notice that Slandy has kindly removed the homepage from his adorable little sidekick’s comment.
One can’t help but wonder what this courageous conservative hypocrite has to hide.
PS: You’ll also notice, in the same comment thread, that Bertrand has now resumed posting under the name Leon — most likely due to an email I sent him yesterday alerting him to his embarrassing blunder. In that email, I asked him to explain what he had to hide. As yet, I’ve received no response.
PPS: Hilariously, Landeryou isn’t buying my denial that my name is George. Neither is Bertrand, who ingeniously asked me to provide proof that I’m not George. It’s a good thing I have my wits about me this morning: the crafty devil almost tricked me into revealing who I really am!

John, that’s exactly what’s so funny about it. There’s no reason why:
a) I would have gone to all the trouble of making an Ant Rogenous email address if I was going to attach my real name to it; and
b) Knowing what kind of an operator Iain; Hall is, I would have left my real name on there when sending him an email.
Anyone with the slightest bit of nous would have figured that out instantly and seen it for a hoax.
But then, remember who we’re dealing with.

Landeryou is a real piece of work. I had a few emails from him after he did a post about me and he honestly seems to think he’s just being ironic, Eg his “pro” Sophie stuff is actually based on his hatred of her.
The problem is he’s so offensive and disrespectful that the irony in his posts just becomes lost.
(PS: I actually doubt that Iain Hall sent him the George piece because, in Slanderyou’s mind, he was sending up Hall not Ant)

When I had the hooha with Tim Blair, Leon sent me a really kind email telling me how disgusted he was in the responses from Blair’s loonies. For this reason, I find it hard to criticise him. I just skip any dust ups I see that involve him. Funny enough when I engaged in some post a while ago, he was more than polite and open to opinions.
I like to bring down a RW loonie as much as anyone but out of respect for giving me support when I was “the enemy”, I try to ignore any comments about him as much as possible.
Call me soft or naive but I feel he is not from the same bucket as c;nt. Someone like c;unt would never do what Leon did unless it was for personal gain. If Leon wanted to gain something by giving me his support, he would not have emailed me discreetly.
OK, I’m now open to criticism . . . GO!

Eight years of his life Harris devoted to writing “Hannibal”, I think he’d know his own characters and then along comes Riddely Scott and Dino DeLaurentis and slash about 200 pages of character development and dialogue, drop some characters altogether, MERGE some of them (I was gob-smacked) and as a final insult, completely re- write the ending.
The movie had some great things going for it, not least of which being shot on location in Florence but given the assumption that Lecter had plastic surgery after his escape in Memphis they could have easily cast another actor as Lecter for “Hannibal”.
I think they should have actually, I think Sir Anthony forgot his most important piece of direction on playing Lecter, to be “like his (Hopkins’) character in the Elephant Man, but locked in an insane mind” (as Johnathon Demme said during “Silence”).
I mean I can understand Jodie Foster not coming on board after all the trouble she had with stalkers (even though it got Reagan shot so it wasn’t all bad) but to completely re-script the entire conclusion to me is just un-forgivable.

krypto, I agree that Hannibal was murdered in the transition from book to film, however that was also the case with The Silence of the Lambs … lots of character development and dialogue went out the window there too. What remained was more horror movie than tense psychological thriller. As for re-casting Lecter, I hear they approached an unknown Queenslander with a background in drama but negotiations fell through over the script (not enough semi-colons).
