I heard a little of Julie Bishop on the radio this morning, apparently she has been asked to go back to WA on a rescue mission. While not a Liberal supporter, I believe that an effective government needs an effective opposition and the Libs could do a lot worse than put her in the top job. She is well-spoken and made some good points. No idea on her policies apart from being a Workchoices fan, but I think she could pull the Libs into line.

Don't forget those well worn tropes when talking about Woomera:

1. razor wire
2. hot desert location
3. concentration camp
4. people getting about like zombies
5. new found fans of all things Aussie (AFL, Foxtel platinum, Pantene hair products etc).

enough said.
So the current facilities at Woomera would easily house around 33% of the Australian population in inhumanly cramped, disease ridden squallor reminiscent of the convict hulks moored on the Thames in centuries past.
Perhaps we could squeeze em into just the one compound and see what happens.

people are stupid, would they honestly prefer the infrastructure, health and education systems to degrade just to keep the annual tax cuts and middle class welfare checks coming?

With voters showing discontent with the budget I think I can see the baleful figure of Keating hovering around Swan.

Worse off = nothing in it for me.

Unless 33% were planning to buy luxury cars. I know I was.

yes I think if you looked at and compared the annual income of the 22% who are better off and the 33% who are worse off the clearer picture would emerge.

It's a little difficult to feel sympathy for those whinging they will be "worse off" when you see them sitting down to lobster stuffed with beluga caviar and white truffle served on a bed of 24 carrat gold leaf every night.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this country needs a gulag.

Why would he bother trying to undermine Nelson, when Nelson does such a great job himself?

And why are 33 per cent of Australians worse off under the budget? How? Whingeing fucks.
