Costello has shown himself to be risk-averse, unwilling to take the prize unless it is handed to him on a plate, and ultimately not the great economic manager he was touted as. Macquarie Bank not offering him the executive positions he expected suggests they don't think as much of his economic credentials as Tip himself does. As for Downer, fuck. If your company is looking for a petulant patsie with a born-to-rule attitude who thinks he's above any form of accountability, he's your man. But if (like many companies) you aren't, then look elsewhere. On the other hand, maybe much more modest positions were indeed offered.
