Don’t hurry back

Remember how Jim Schembri slagged off bloggers and then started a blog? You may also be aware that last week he slagged off jazz and then within a few days became a jazz fan.

Jim yesterday announced that he is taking a “short break” from his “journalism” and blogging duties. Let’s hope he makes it a long break. A really long break.

I’m glad it’s not just me who thought Jim Schembri was a waste of good fish and chip wrappers.

Did anyone read that blog by ‘Michael’ the mentally unstable blogger who wrote about stalking Jim Schembri? Well, he has taken it down now but he documented all his stalkings.

He even waited for Schembri outside his work and egged him and had to go to court for it.

    Legend.

Michael, if you are reading this, please start your blog again.

The sad thing is that Schembri used to write amusing tv and movie reviews.

This stopped when Mr Schembri was deluded into believing he was a journalist.

And he posts a Disney cartoon?! Disney!? What a tool. Anyone knows the only good cartoons were from Warner Bros … I’d like to tie him to chair and force him to listen to the collected works of Cecil Taylor and Ornette Coleman.

And then bash him with a hammer.

The Goofy shorts are actually pretty good. UPA made some great shorts, MGM had some really good ones, even Terrytoons made the odd short that wasn’t balls. Probably the best shorts are by independent animators anyway. Warner Bros were pretty good though.

I’m going to open myself up to all sorts of abuse here, but I’ve got to come to poor Jim’s defence. Sure I don’t really read his blog, but before blogging existed, he was taking journalism into that sphere. He has a sharp wit and in his early days as a journo broke many conventions and held his job on the strength of his writing alone.

Fair enough, Bill. I just don’t find his writing the least bit funny. Personal taste, I guess.

Just for the record, regarding comment No.2, I’m not the Michael referred to. I’m not a blogger, have never stalked Jim Schembri (or anyone else) and apart from some minor endearing personality quirks, am not generally considered “mentally unstable”.

Now where’s my copy of “Play Misty for Me” gone?

To think they virtually gave Adrian Martin the arse then hacked down the amount of space for Jake Wilson and Philipa Hawker for Schembri’s form of ‘film criticism’. He was fine for the capsule reviews in EG and the Green Guide, but when he moves over the 75 word mark he’s in trouble.

    Bolt’s a bit of a fan though, isn’t he?

The Age used to be an essential Thursday purchase.

    Used to be.

my dad thinks he’s a great reviewer. what ever he bags is normally worth watching and what ever he likes just stay away from. it’s a formula that hardly fails.
