Breakfast snark

Overheard at GrodsHQ this morning while breakfast was taken to the strains of ABC Radio National’s breakfast program (that’s right — we’re wyld and krazy kidz in the GrodsHouse)…

McBec: This sports guy (Warwick Hadfield) shits me to tears with his smarmy little jokes and stupid puns and stuff.

The Editor: He’s not that bad. Although, I do love it when Fran or Steve interrupt him to respond to something he says and you can hear the anger and annoyance in his voice at being cut off and having to find his place in the script again.

McBec: He he. Yeah, that rocks.

    Sounds like a Grodsthink recording!

I’m just glad to be having an extended dose of Steve, Fran doesn’t seem to cut it as a radio host.

I’m going to have to challenge you to a fight behind the bike sheds on this one, Dave. Steve is to Fran as astroturf is to lush grass.

Have you smoked your bribe well earned pay rise in one session Ed? When it comes to interviewing people Fran is like the work experience kid who steadfastly sticks to the script even when her subject opens up the opportunity for a huge free kick.

She’s a good journo, and was excellent as chief political reporter on the 7.30 Report, but she doesn’t cut it when it comes to live radio.

You know you’re progessively getting a bit older when you go from say Nova to Gold Classic Hits, then from FM to commercial AM talkback, then from commercial AM talkback to ABC Local Radio and then progres to Radio National.

Where does one go after Radio National and why Mr Editor are you already there? That is the audio equivalent of wearing very high pants.

I still miss Fran, but I’m warming to Steve (I thought he was a bit “vanilla” at first, but I am beginning think he is an “aikido interviewer” who gets out of the way and lets subjects trip over themselves).

I also eat porridge, complain about loud music, and wish there wasn’t so much sleazy nonsense on the television.

Wah, we’re the new old fogey class. We went pretty much from the Js to RN, just like all their announcers did. Besides, on RN you get AM at 7.00 rather than 8.00, that’s pretty much enough for me.

I take pride in the fact that I am too young to know what the hell you are talking about, Dave.

I don’t eat breakfast, love music at any volume and wish there was more sleazy nonsense on television.

Well Keri, once upon a time Triple J was actually a really good radio station, but too many of its presenters were turning into old farts and were pensioned off to RN, leaving us with the less than stellar performers that we’ve had for the past five years or ten.

AM is a vital piece of current affairs for getting your daily indoctrination.

If enjoying a bit of Radio National with my toast and tea is high panting then go ahead and call me Granddad.

Dave FA - have you discovered the delights of “Early AM”? It starts at 6!

Also in Steve’s favour - I think the banter between him and Tony Jones is a bit smoother when they cut back to breakfast.

Yes, now that I think about it he’s a lovely young man.

Jason, Early AM is only on my radar if the Troll Princess or Buster Boy are being extra unkind with regards to their wake up times.

    There is a 6 AM ??!!!

I like to wake up to Sunrise.

What was it Blackadder said? “Personally… I like to start the day with a total dickhead to remind me I’m best.”

You can’t go further than the dickheads on Sunrise to remind you you are best, Keri.

I love it when Frank and Steve interrupt
And the script is nothing more than a guide to be changed at anytime, so I think you’re hearing something youw ant to hear rather than something that is really happening.

But I love the fact you’re listening, that’s the most important thing of all, you can’t please everyone, as Aesop’s tale about the man the boy and the donkey prove. It would be great though if you could improve this web-site so that it doesn’t take half an hour to write one word.

    Cheers
