Each year in the lead up to the glorious International Capitalism Day (this coming Sunday, 1 June), everyday Australians and proud capitalists around the world wait anxiously for the announcement of the recipient of Prodos‘ Melbourne Capitalism Award. Previous winners include the Pentecostal Church minister, Danny Nalliah, who was charged with racial vilification (charges were later dropped), and figures from the Institute of Public Affairs, The H.R. Nicholls Society, and Brookes News. But this year Prodos has selected a Liberal politician who inspires Australians around the country and fights tirelessly for the rights of capitalists under this socialist Labor regime. Ladies and gentlemans, put your hands together for… Sophie Mirabella!

Melbourne’s Capitalist of the Year sitting on the right chair

If you — like me — can’t contain your excitement about Ms Mirabella’s amazing achievement you might like to pop along to the grand ceremony in an even grander venue planned this weekend to celebrate Sophie and capitalism.

We will be meeting for dining, drinking and general festivities at:

Venue: Don Mateos cafe restaurant
406 Bridge Road, Richmond
(next door to The Passion Fruit, opposite Reece Hardware)

Time: Starting at around 6.30 PM.

Unfortunately I’m busy (vacuuming the curtains) but if you manage to get there take some photos for us, will you?

Sophie is a deserving winner. I am not sure exactly what the prerequisites are for the award, or who (if anyone) voted on it, or why micro-entrepreneurs in the slums of Dar es Salaam missed out (again! Hernando de Soto will be on the blower to Prodos any minute!), but I’m sure Sophie is a pretty damn good capitalist/promoter of freedom.

Imagine the VIP list for those festivities on the weekend! I am of a mind to slip into the Reece Hardware, pose as a generic hardware browser, and snap some shots of the guests as they arrive. Should be a corker.

The prerequisites and the voting exist only in Prodos’ mind. The guest list comprises his wife and a rag-tag handful of freakish Ayn Randroids.

Speaking of Ayn Randroids, I noticed that Aurora is taking a spell from blogging. Perhaps she’ll be attending, too, asking Sophie to sign her copy of Fountainhead.

What I want to know is whether the deserving recipient will be in attendance?

The Capitalism Award page has died :(

Feel the mighty click power of the Grodscorp effect!

What I’d do to wipe that smug smile off that evil bitch’s face.

Damn it Ed, I’ve just spent an hour trolling through the mess that is PRODOS’ various ‘projects’ and I blame you.

Before we spend too much time vilifying him, are we sure that he’s actually of sound mind? I’d feel rather bad about teasing someone who was short a chromosome.

And Wah, perhaps you and Ray can form a strike team.

The only thing I’m curious about is why the Australian flags are in the state they are in, in the photo.

    I’ve got 4 possible explanations.

    1) Neglect by office staff.
    2) Flags attain self-awareness and commit suicide after witnessing the slow, painful murder of the fair go.
    3) Flags wilt from hot air.
    4) Flags pushed aside by plant growth fueled by sulfurous gaseous emissions.

    What u reckon?

    capitilism day..pfffft

1st June is WA Foundation Day, so the Monday, the 2nd, is public holiday in the fair west. While nobody cares, and less know what it is about, we all love the extra day off anyway.

    oh so thats why:

    Hehe. Now, who’s next?

I won’t even use mirabella brand light globes, I don’t want to take the chance that she might profit from it.

Mirabella has that effect on Australian flags, which have an uncanny ability to pick up vibes and respond to them.
The flag flying above her electorate office in Wangaratta is the most tired looking, ragged and dirty bit of cloth I’ve seen.

I love my job but this weekened I’m getting sent to Sydney for a conference.
Is it worth quitting my employment just to go to this shindig?
    Wot a die-lemma.

How odd, I was just thinking to myself yesteday what the capitalist equivalent of Labour Day would be, and for some reason just the thought sent me into a fit of giggles.

Quite ironic that we have capitalist day, when every other so-called special day - from Christmas to Valentines has become a major exercise in capitalism.

I’m positive that’s the same self-satisfied smirk that Isla Koch would’ve sported as they knocked her up another lampshade in the Buchenwald workshop.
