The Editor, John Surname, Ant Rogenous, Jeremy Sear, Keri and Craig discuss:

* Petrol, petrol, petrol
* Cult of entitlement: Alexander Downer and Mal Brough
* GrodsCorp’s anti-anti-abortion rally
* Bill Henson: art or pr0n?
* John Laws vs. Carson Kressley in the GrodsThink naked cagefight to the death

** Because Jeremy Sear and Chuck A. Spear are using all of Australia’s bandwidth to play Call Of Duty 4, use only the “Play in popup” link or the “Download” link. **

    WHAT????

  2. Tuesday 27 May 2008, 11:03 pm #The Editor

    Ahem.

  3. Tuesday 27 May 2008, 11:11 pm #John Surname

    ???

  4. Tuesday 27 May 2008, 11:26 pm #Chuck A. Spear

We are playing with hot babes online, that’s is why. God, bloody amateurs.

  5. Tuesday 27 May 2008, 11:30 pm #THR

I still don’t understand why Carlton needs a ‘yacht club’.

  6. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 12:27 am #Jeremy

I’ve been outraged to discover that some cunts have already pinched fuelwatch.blogspot.com and fuelwatch.wordpress.com, so I can’t pinch ‘em and ruin Kevin’s entire petrol strategy. Bother.

  7. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 7:23 am #Ant Rogenous

You should just be satisfied that it’s still ruined, though.

  8. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 7:50 am #The Editor

Jeremy: “I’ve been outraged to discover that some cunts have already pinched fuelwatch.blogspot.com and fuelwatch.wordpress.com, so I can’t pinch ‘em and ruin Kevin’s entire petrol strategy. Bother.”

I love the way that Jeremy casually drops the C-bomb in the first sentence and then expresses his frustration using the very proper “bother” in the second. Layer upon layer of contradiction, our Jeremy.

  9. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 8:21 am #Damian

Enjoyed the discussion of the kid photos. Well done.

Pity you couldn’t have got MK on the line for a comment, although the reading of his “thoughts” was probably pretty close to the real thing. Every time I read something he’s written I picture him sitting at his computer like this.

  10. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 8:23 am #Judas Kiss

Maybe Jeff Koons should be the arbiter on art.

  11. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 8:25 am #Damian

And hey, if you can the cage fight, just do it Camden-style and say it was because of “inadequate planning instruments”. We’ll all know the real reason, but you don’t have to say it, and we all feel better. Yee-haw!

PS Won’t someone write something about Camden?! It’s gunna drag me out of my blogging break if I’m not able to vent soon…

  12. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 8:57 am #EC

I’m coming out of my blog commenting break as it’s saved me no time for study, I still read everything anyway. Completely hopeless!

Ed, I have to agree, Jeremy dropping the c-bomb and “bother” together is rather cute.

  13. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:09 am #Jason

Nice podcast - you got some bangin tunez in there this week. But have you thought about moving Keri closer to the mike?

  14. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:15 am #keri

Jason, I’d already been moved closer to the mike. I sometimes forget to lean in, or that there is a mike present at all.

I think I’m going to have to go on some kind of voice-loudening course.

  15. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:17 am #Ant Rogenous

It’s called bellowcution, Keri. I think Surname teaches a class.

  16. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:19 am #keri

Methinks he’d be one of those creepy, lecherous teachers, Ant.

  17. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:33 am #Jason

Just don’t let him talk you into posing for some “tasteful photos”, Keri.

  18. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 9:42 am #keri

Damn. You mean that’s not a good idea?

I wish you’d told me that last week.

  19. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 10:54 am #John Surname

Those pictures are eleven kinds of awesome.

  20. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 11:23 am #Damian

But they’ve got nothing on Jeremy’s blogger profile picture.

  21. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 11:55 am #Jeremy

I’m going to have to hide it behind a NSFW warning, I think.

  22. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 12:03 pm #Damian

    Not Safe For Wankers?

  23. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 12:06 pm #Jeremy

Or people who view their site.

  24. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 1:45 pm #Anna Cleves

None of you sound the way I thought you would.

Jeremy bought the beers. That’s because he’s RICH!

  25. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 1:48 pm #keri

How did you think we’d sound, Anna?

  26. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:05 pm #Anna Cleves

It’s hard to describe, but I expected Jeremy’s spoken voice to sound the same as his written voice from his blog - do you get what I mean? The voice of anonymouslefty.blogspot.com is scathing and sarcastic and only occasionaly serious, but in real life Jeremy’s voice is quite different. Same deal for the other podcasters - I thought Ant Rogenous would be more vitriolic and angry-sounding (because he is in comments). Actually the teacher guy sounds much as he thought I would.

  27. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:10 pm #John Surname

Yeah, Ed’s pretty much a shallow, one trick pony.

  28. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:11 pm #Ant Rogenous

Jeremy bought the cheapest beer they had, Anna. And he asked whether they’d accept “less for cash”. When they refused, he tried to haggle. And when we’d finished our drinks, he pocketed the empty stubbies, figuring he’ll get to South Australia one day, where he’ll be able to collect 5c per bottle returned.

  29. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:12 pm #keri

I’d love to even have one trick. I don’t even have a pony.

  30. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:17 pm #John Surname

As we left Jeremy was heard to mutter “Looks like I won’t be able to afford dinner this week”.

  31. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:20 pm #Anna Cleves

    Hehe. You guys are funny.

  32. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:20 pm #Jeremy

That’s not actually my voice, Anna. It was a character I’ve invented called “man who wishes he sounded completely different”.

PS It was “forelock-tugging”. I knew what I meant.

  33. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:24 pm #keri

I stand by my claim, Jeremy - if you have to seriously think if the word you are using is correct, it’s the wrong one.

Who’s forelock were you tugging, anyway? I’ve completely forgotten.

And are you sure that character isn’t “man with hand over his mouth as he realises he’s stopped Ed from starting Podcast again?”

  34. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:24 pm #Ant Rogenous

I’m angry that I didn’t sound vitriolic in that podcast!

But seriously, Anna, do I come across that way all the time in comments at Jeremy’s blog? It’s really not my intention — most of the time I’m just trying to be funny — but after about a year of having commented there I’m sick to death of the idiots (like Reap) who lob in solely to stir shit.

There have been some terrific debates there in the past, with many more ruined by childish “gotcha!” merchants who think a cheap shot at the site’s host is some kind of victory against an imaginary, amorphous enemy they know as “The Left”.

  35. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:25 pm #Ant Rogenous

I’m just glad Jeremy said “furlock” and not “foreskin”.

  36. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:31 pm #Jeremy

“And are you sure that character isn’t “man with hand over his mouth as he realises he’s stopped Ed from starting Podcast again?””

That was my first character, Keri. I then morphed into the second one. By the end I’d morphed into “man who realises he’s talked over everyone throughout the entire podcast once again and probably won’t be invited back”.

    See, I have range.

  37. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:41 pm #Anna Cleves

I know what forelock tugging is, even if no-one else does (or pretends not to know).

  38. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 2:56 pm #Wah

  39. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 3:10 pm #Wah

Jeremy I feel your sadness and pain over the whole petrol price con.

  40. Wednesday 28 May 2008, 3:27 pm #Private Tom

I looked up ‘forelock-tugging’ on free dictionary. Apparently, it’s a British phrase meaning “showing too much respect towards someone who is in a high position.” Given that Mr. Lefty’s gravatar is an English butler who simultaneously sucks up to and manipulates his higher-up, it’s rather appropriate.

  41. Friday 30 May 2008, 11:56 am #Alex

I thought it to be a great idea you guys include a female on occasion unfortunately every time Keri joins your show I wanna tune out. Perhaps, Jason, it’s better Keri stay away from that mic.
Keep up the good work guys and move that mic away further.

  42. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:07 pm #keri

    Any particular reason, Alex?

  43. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:12 pm #Bron

Well, that was constructive criticism from Alex.

  44. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:13 pm #The Editor

Ouch! Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. But I like the contribution Keri makes to our podcast and I’m the first among equals here at the ‘Corp so she stays.

  45. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:17 pm #Jacquie

    Agrees with Alex sorry Ed.

  46. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:22 pm #Bron

Agrees with Ed [sic] sorry Jacquie.

  47. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:25 pm #The Editor

No need to bicker. Difference of of opinion and all that.

  48. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:28 pm #keri

Yep, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I’ll just sit here crying quietly into my potato salad.

  49. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:36 pm #Bron

Who’s bickering? And do you have a stutter today, Ed? “of of”?

  50. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:39 pm #The Editor

If you guys want to to bicker and waste my my time now, I’ll keep you in at at lunch and waste your time then.

  51. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:42 pm #Bron

    But… but… they started it!

    Apple, sir?

  52. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:45 pm #Steve

look what you did alex. if keri would just stop talking over people and using too many words she should stay

  53. Friday 30 May 2008, 12:48 pm #keri

    See? That’s constructive!

Can’t argue with that, Steve. I do blather, and there is a bit of talking all over each other.

  54. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:13 pm #Ant Rogenous

I agree that everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but one person posting their opinion three times, under three different names, from the same IP address is pretty dishonest.

No one here is afraid to be criticised or challenged, 202.134.34.62 — but if you’re not prepared to do so in good faith, perhaps you shouldn’t bother.

  55. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:22 pm #Alex

so thats how to be constructive. i say get bron in for an ep

  56. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:28 pm #Jacquie

from 192.162.80.103 oh but who’s to say we are not just all listeners from the same workplace Ant???
You may thank Jason for advertising you to us

  57. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:36 pm #Ant Rogenous

… who’s to say we are not just all listeners from the same workplace Ant?

If that is indeed the case, I apologise for jumping to conclusions.

  58. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:46 pm #Alex

Ahh I cant believe what I have just tuned back in to discover…it appears this banter has been some much sort after entertainment today around here. My hit & run comment of my opinion sparked interest from bored colleagues here who have all been kicked off your site now and are being reprimanded.

  59. Friday 30 May 2008, 1:47 pm #Alex

and shame on you whoever stole my “Alex” alias tsk tsk!

  60. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:00 pm #Damian

Where’s Howard Roark when you need him?

For the record, I’m a fan of Keri’s contributions. Personally, I want to hear more of her. But knowing how these things mature over time - under their own steam - I won’t be pressuring her to do more than she is now.

    Surname is another matter.

  61. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:02 pm #Damian

Bron, where is your gravatar for fuck’s sake?

  62. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:04 pm #The Editor

John Surname’s voice is like nails down a blackboard and I’ve heard more intelligent opinions voiced by prep aged school children.

And where the fuck is your Gravatar, Bron?

  63. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:05 pm #THR

Is there any way of coaxing some interstate guests onto the podcast? It’d be great to hear from Mikey, Ms Bellybutton, Bron, or Damian.

  64. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:06 pm #The Editor

    I agree. (Except for Bron.)

  65. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:06 pm #keri

    Thanks, Damian.

  66. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:09 pm #Damian

Hey Ed, I hear you on the topic of Tsurnami, but I’m a traditionalist. I remember the days of “FUCK YOU”. I’m old school (not like “Alex”).

    *pout*

  67. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:20 pm #The Editor

You like Surname’s old stuff better than his new stuff.

  68. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:23 pm #Damian

    Heh heh. Perzackerly.

  69. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:50 pm #Bron

Jeez, this obsession with gravatars. Get a life, kids!

    I agree. (Except for Bron.)

    I agree, too.

  70. Friday 30 May 2008, 3:53 pm #Bron

Gravatar should appear soon. Stop complaining, kids.

  71. Friday 30 May 2008, 10:33 pm #Wah

I thought Keri’s contribution was excellent. Great to hear a young person who’s on top of every issue. The humour is great, but I must she showed everyone else up with her knowledge and opinions of the issues discussed.

  72. Friday 30 May 2008, 11:34 pm #John Surname

Damian, my feelings are the teensiest bit hurt.

  73. Sunday 1 June 2008, 5:17 pm #magic bellybutton

Is there any way of coaxing some interstate guests onto the podcast? It’d be great to hear from Mikey, Ms Bellybutton, Bron, or Damian.

The Ed has already approached me about making an appearance when I’m down in Melbourne. Alas, when I’m down there in July, it will be over the weekend and not a GrodsThink night.

Besides, I’m certain my contribution would be mostly swear words or inarticulate noises.

  74. Sunday 1 June 2008, 5:37 pm #Bron

Besides, I’m certain my contribution would be mostly swear words or inarticulate noises.

No different to what we hear now on the GrodsCasts, really.

  75. Sunday 1 June 2008, 6:20 pm #magic bellybutton

    Point!

  76. Sunday 1 June 2008, 8:46 pm #The Editor

I’ll gladly do a weekend recording to get you on the ‘cast, MBB.

  77. Sunday 1 June 2008, 10:49 pm #magic bellybutton

I’ll find out what we’re doing and shoot you an email.

  78. Monday 2 June 2008, 7:58 am #keri

    Thanks Wah!
