how connected is all of this to the new legislation that has just been passed in Victoria on this issue?
Is it co-incidence that it's come up now or what?

Suburban Marxist - There was also a tradey-ish cafe on the corner. I got a large hot chocolate there just before the rally so I could fit in with all the latte-sippers.

Either that or I was slightly cold because I stood there for twenty freaking minutes before anyone else turned up (Although I believe Private Tom was already there, but unsighted)

I am so happy you were there. I'm sure they all prayed for you afterwards in a lame attempt to save face amongst themselves.

That said, the confrontations are obviously escalating, expect they will be better prepared with a battalion of sharpened crosses next time and carrying the Ark of the Covenant.

I wish I could have been there to help.

There was a latte` in sight you know. There's a very nice thought slightly overly posh cafe around the corner. I had a latte` there before the rally. And then one again during. And one afterwards.

And yeah, boy did I have a hangover.

But it was all for a good cause and as per usual I enjoyed being full of hate.

Although the fundies did not give us any action or nastiness this month, they certainly breached the threshold and got mean last month -- hence the bigger turnout this month on the part of the pro-choicers. Hopefully this month's bigger turn-out reminded them to not fuck with the clinic and women's bodies.

I'm fond of that card too PT, there are a couple of other white cards I think are appropriate too

http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=14489
and of course
http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=21021
They've changed the caption on that one it used to read "the only "training" I needed was seeing my fields burned to ashes".

I think there is something massively morale boosting in things like that, the ability of one person to influence the many is powerful indeed.

I think it was again Henry 4th,as recorded by Shakespeare, Henry, commenting on valour says something to the effect
"I have seen noblemen in full armour turn heel and run at the first whiff of battle, and I have seen the lowliest serf pull a spear from his own side to defend a fallen horse".

Private Tom:

May I present you with a Medal of Honor [sic] for your gallantry and intrepidity at risk of life above and beyond the call of duty, after crossing no-man's land into enemy territory on a dangerous peace mission, with only chocolate as your weapon. Although you ultimately failed to sell any chocolate, it was not your fault that you didn't see tha pleeze come up behind you, for the rest of your platoon chose to stay on the allied side.

Your country owes you its thanks and gratitude.

The Editor:

May I present you with a Silver Star for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United Lefties, using nothing but a vidcam. And also for the best bit of background music I've ever heard. It certainly gave the sense of impending doom and danger, with an eventual ironic twist as the enemy combatant stalked off.

I am also impressed by your steady hand as you held the video camera, considering your fragile state at the time.

The rest of the platoon:

Thanks for attending. You each get Purple Hearts and I'll shout you all a latte when I come to the next picket.

hats off there Private Tom, that was pretty ballsy of you to go deep into enemy territory on your own.

If you were a magic card you'd be this one.
http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=45173

Bron reminded of Henry IVth's address to his army before the battle of Agincourt.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us on this Saint Crispin's day."

Borg repelled.
Victory.

Oh, and Ant? Some of us got there early enough to have had time for a wander around, locate the nearest cafe' and get a hot chocolate by the time others stumbled up late and hungover (Or looking for a park again)

Nah, the photos were fine, Keri. It's just that the fundies aren't very good for -- as we say in the biz -- colour and movement. They walk up, stand still, pray, walk away.

Pfft. Boring.

Private Tom, I believe that's my fault. Ed did hand me his camera to take photos, but it's taken me three years to get anything half decent out of mine, so I did the traditional point-and-click thing. I've no doubt they were shit.

They wimped out. As per the old Goon Show line:

SEAGOON: I daren't attack now, they're too many. I'll wait until they're both gone, and then I'll spring!

They turned me away because the pigs hate charity. BTW, given that we've labelled HOGPI emotional terrorists and bigots...the film doesn't really capture any of that. No violence, no signs showing aborted fetuses...not very fundie like (hopefully next time). And where are the photos? I only saw a few from Cap. Jeremy's blog.

Chocolate wasn't the way to go confectionary wise. He should have turned some bottled water into wine gums or something.
