And a great day was had by all. Mr and Mrs McBec now leave the fish in the hands of family and friends while they toddle off to Nth Queensland for a mighty well-earned relax.

In other news, buck’s party fever hit Melbourne last Thursday and Tha Boyz hereby pose for a happy snap with the world’s worst beer — Hayward’s 5000 — as forced upon them by a curry restaurant that can easily spot an opportunity to offload surplus stock.

Hayward’s 5000: It’s the Ganges River — bottled!

See you at the end of January.

Hayward’s 5000 was a beer gone wrong. Didn’t stop us drinking it though!

I take it they’re the Serbian pentecostals.

Other opinions on the quality of this beer are available on the electrical internet, but you may wish to knowthat Haywards 5000, the king of strong beers, was launched in 1983. It now sells over 14 million cases per annum and is a leader in strong beer category. It is also the second largest selling beer brand in India. The brand has a market share of 30 per cent in the strong beer category. Haywards 5000 has been instrumental in radically altering the beer consumption pattern of beer with strong:mild ratio changing from 30:70 in 1993 to 68:32 in 2001. Only goes to prove the Haywards tag line Asli josh se bach ke kahan jaoge. Hay wards 5000 is patiently brewed over an extended brew cycle to yield a beer that is super strong, yet surprisingly smooth. It boasts a sale of around 10 million cases (7.8 litres each) annually in the strong segment.

Yes Alan, it goes to prove that eating to much curry can change (kill) your taste buds.
As we all learned on the night, when you first taste it, ( no words can really describe the taste) the flavour (for want of another word) is blaaaaaaaaaah. BUT after a few mouthfulls of the curry dish you did or did not order the BEER was a bit more palatable. As the curry eating got into full swing I must admit the BEER did go down a bit easier. But even if I go to India or am dying of thirst I will never drink another HAYWARDS 5000.

I’ve enjoyed the odd “strong beer” over the years but none of the others tasted like fermented dog turd.

I think it was still in the middle of it’s 2nd fermentation.

[...] Wash it all down with a BYO beer (don’t rely upon the cheap, but undrinkable, supply of house brew — see here for more information) and rejoice when your wallet barely takes a hit. It’s possible to walk away from Kake Di Hatti feeling uncomfortably full and sufficiently boozed for less than $20 each. With a fantastic range of veggie delights, friendly down-to-earth service, all at the right price, Kake is a must-visit. [...]
