Enough is enough. Bomber Beazley has had ample chance to gain the trust of Australian voters but it's becoming increasingly clear that it's not going to happen. Newspoll and ACNelson both found today that Slim Kim continues to lag as possible future PM and there are no signs that things will get better. Labor just needs to accept that voters don't accept Kim.
So what now? There are about two years until the next election and something needs to be done now. Do we need another repeat of the '04 disaster to force action? Labor powerbrokers need to lean very hard on NSW ex-Premier Bob Carr to move into Bomber's Canberra office. The ACNielson poll found extraordinarily high support for Carr amongst non-Labor voters — exactly the voters who need to be convinced. If the Carr For Canberra move fails then there must be a speedy ascent of either Julia Gillard or Kevin Rudd. The Editor is no great fan of Rudd but it's possible he may just resonate with the electorate.
